When the ship derailed into the Isle of Montigo, the last thing Donghae expected was to fall in love with a mermaid. But there Hyomin was, abandoned in the shallow tide, forgotten like a lost pet, her eyes wide and vulnerable, her scales sharp but hues fading, the intake of her breaths heavy and needy. The other crewmen tried to stop him from going near, pulled his chest back, warning him "mermaids be beautiful creatures, but they lack the souls that humans need."
Donghae, however, was always full of hope, his heart full of the belief that everything had meaning and purpose and was beautiful. And she was beautiful. Lips vivid, smooth locks long enough to cover the revealing of her bare breasts, a tail full of pigments not found in any rainbow known to mankind.
So he took her in his arms, inhaled the heavy scent of sea and sweetness she embodied and carried her to the end of the port, dumping her back into the welcome of the wide water. But the moment her tail hit the water and her breathing steadied, she clung to his chest more, pupils filled with fright at the mere thought of being alone, separated.
"What is it?" he asked softly, never taking his eyes from her, his fingers still locked around the softness of those exotic shoulders.
"Don't leave me," her words were slow, foreign but they filled his optimistic heart through and through. So it was no surprise that when she leaned up and pressed her lips against his, that he reciprocated quick; the mermaid lips incomparably softer than any human's he had ever touched.
And when she pulled him into the water, plunging him deep beyond the surface imprinting him with scales on the sides of his stomach until he was able to breathe without breathing, there was a smile so grand on her face that he couldn't refuse a smile back. Donghae the sailor decided that earth didn't really have all that much to offer whereas Donghae the mermaid could have a whole life full of unexplored territories and indulgent dreams.
"You're beautiful."
Hyomin kissed him fierce underwater once more before they swam to the far unknown, mesh tails colliding and naked chests radiant.
