Back to the Disaster Continuation]
For the first time in what seemed like years, he awoke to the smell of sweet melon. He inhaled deeply before opening his eyes. He was met with an old band T-shirt: he remembered Kibum wearing this shirt during dance practices when they were still trainees years ago. It was tattered and torn, paint splattered, and colors were beyond fading yet he refused to throw it away. For some reason this comforted Donghae, the fact that this old shirt was still worn despite the fact that Kibum was able to afford all those branded shirts.
Then again, he had been feeling sentimental at anything lately, it was all the grieving. The thought brought the familiar feeling of tears behind his eyes, but he knew that he couldn't continue living like this. Over the last week alone he had neglected himself to an extreme. He couldn't remember what the last thing he had eaten was, or when he last drank anything before Kibum had forced him.
The thought suddenly made his throat itchy, the thirst almost making him cough. He attempted to push himself up in bed only to be held down in Kibum's sound embrace. Donghae slowly pulled Kibum's arms from his waist, and proceeded to swing his legs over the edge of the bed, careful to not disturb the other body. He managed get out of bed without so much as making Kibum twitch, the first time he accomplished such a feat. After doing a small victory dance he tiptoed to the door and walked out of the room quietly.
The dorm was still dark, the digital clock revealing it was four in the morning. He walked down the hall quietly lest he wake up the occupants of the other rooms, only turning on the light once he had gotten to the end of the hallway near the kitchen. The light buzzed to life, flooding the kitchen with light. He was going to enter when he heard multiple groans from the living room.
What was that?!?
Donghae slightly panicked at the sound and jumped into the kitchen. He quickly tumble rolled to the stove and pulled out a skillet from the cabinet. His hands trembled slightly as his grip on the skillet hardened.
You're over reacting Hae. Maybe it was the neighbors. Heebum might have snuck in again in search of Kibum. Yeah.
...Or maybe some mad serial killer broke into the dorm and stabbed one of the members when they came for a midnight snack.
Or worse! Maybe another fan girl climbed the railing and broke in! No! Not again!
Donghae gripped the skillet harder before pulling himself up using the counter top as leverage. He slowly walked towards the entrance or the kitchen, facing the living room. He saw someone on the floor of the living room, the mass hidden in the shadows. He steeled his nerves as saw the thing move, wiggling for a while before settling down again.
OMO! No! Some crazy fan girl came to seek revenge by kidnapping Heebummie! NOT ON MY WATCH!!
With that thought Donghae raised the skillet over his head and with a war cry went running into the living room. Sadly, he didn't see the rubber ducky from yesterday in his path and ended up tripping, the skillet landing with a thump in the darkness. He fell forward and landed on the unknown blob. The figure gasped in surprise and started flailing, attempting to dislodge the 58 kg male on top of him. Donghae grabbed his arms and pulled them back, making the other yell out in pain.
"Relinquish your hold on Heebummie you fiend!! I won't let you get away with this! Feel the wrath of FISHY!!"
The light in the living room turned on, startling Donghae. There he saw the members, their hair and clothes in disarray sitting up in the middle of all the blankets littering the floor, all looking at him with a confused face. He smiled up at them, his grip on his prisoner not letting up.
"Hey guys! What are you doing here?"
Teukie rubbed the bridge of his nose letting out a deep sigh.
"Hae, what are you doing to Jongwoon?"
Donghae blinked innocently. He looked down at the person who's arms he was pulling back and saw Jongwoon's confused and groggy face glaring at him from under his bangs. Donghae quickly got up and laughed nervously, pulling at the hem of his Finding Nemo shirt.
"What's with all the noise?"
All heads turned to see Kibum emerging from his room, mouth open in a yawn and one hand rubbing his eye.
"Donghae came in yelling and attacked--"
"Is that my rice pan?!?"
Now all heads turned towards Hankyung who was staring at the skillet that had wound up near the bookcase. When Donghae let out another nervous chuckle all attention was once again on him.
"Okay, explain." Jongwoon was now rolling his shoulders back and fourth, a look of slight irritation etched on his face.
"Well you see I came out to get water, but then there were all these sounds so I grabbed the pan to defend us against the crazed fan girl that had come to kidnap Heebum. Her plan was to take revenge because of something Heechul said but then what if she took Bada? Or RongRong? She might not even spared Little Sweet Potato! But she was too fast, when I thought I had a hold of her she morphed into Yesung! And now we're all here...wait! Where's Sungmin!?! Oh no she took Sungmin! Why?!?"
Donghae dropped to his knees and clutched his head in his hands, the rest of the members staring at him with bewildered expressions on their faces. Sungmin emerged from the hallway, now standing behind Kibum.
"What'd I miss?"
Donghae looked up and saw Sungmin standing at the door way, a perplexed look adorning his face. He quickly stood up and started doing a little dance.
"Yay! I stopped the metamorphin crazy fan girl from taking all our pets and Sungmin all in one day! Go fishy!"
Teukie merely shook his head and made his way across the living room to the kitchen.
"I need a cup of coffee."
Hankyung retrieved his pan from the bookcase and made his way to the kitchen as well.
"I got breakfast covered."
All the other members slowly made their way to the kitchen, patting Donghae's head or rubbing his back as they went. He felt himself again, the weirdness of the situation felt familiar and comfortable. Then he suddenly remembered why he had wanted water in the first place. He hadn't really eaten or drunk anything in a while. His dad had died. It seemed as if a fuse burst, his entire mood plummeting to the floor. The feeling of exhaustion overtook him and all he wanted to do was go back to bed. He was on his way back down the hallway before he was pulled into Kibum's arms.
"Hae, what happened? You went from cloud nine to under the bridge in the blink of an eye."
Donghae buried his head in Kibum's chest, allowing the younger's muscular arms to wrap around him.
"Is he really gone Bummie?"
"I'm sorry, Fishy. But you have to let yourself live."
"I don't think I can be normal again, Kibum. Not like before."
Kibum pulled away slightly, his smile sincere. He kissed Donghae's forehead before leading him towards the bustling kitchen.
"You've never really been normal Hae fishy, so I don't think you'll have much trouble. I mean, one day out of your room and you've already attacked Yesung! You'll be back to shaving Heebum in no time flat."
Donghae smiled slightly at Kibum's teasing as he entered the kitchen. He sat at his usual chair, surveying the others bickering, bowls of cereal being passed around, cups and dishes making noise as the thirteen bodies struggled for enough space to move comfortably in the small kitchen, the scent of fried rice and orange juice filling the air. Donghae took a deep breath and let it out slowly. It felt like home.
