"not take advantage of some lives for the benefit of others."

You mean, like robbing some people of their constitutional right to due process by sticking them in Guantanamo Bay without being accused (!) for the benefit of the country? Or like denying some people the right to marry and/or adopt children to benefit the conscience of certain social groups that seek to enforce their views not just on their followers but on the entire country?

OMG I don't want to come back!

5ish on Saturday or Sunday should work, if that's ok (and I do mean 5pm :P). I'm hoping to go to Mumbles on Saturday, and see more of the ocean there, but I can't imagine I won't be back by then. OMG Vijay I bought shoes! We have to talk!

I don't think those are the only two options...there are other (sometimes more effective) forms of activism.

do you deserve the right to get married? the president doesnt think so, and everyone around him doesnt think so, and they will not give you that right either and as long as that thinking predominates you will never have that right. women didnt have rights, blacks didnt have rights, gay people didnt have rights. what they do have they didnt get by asking, they got it by insisting. they want you to be passive because as long as you are they know you will take the peanuts they toss you and be satisfied because you will never challenge them head on, and they are confident that you wont. are they right?

Who says I'm being passive and are satisfied w/their "peanuts?" I think I do challenge the administration head on, as do many other activists. Just because we are not marching on the streets and getting gassed doesn't mean we're not fighting in our own ways. MLK, Gloria Steinem, and tons of other activists weren't only marching on the streets. They were meeting w/their congressmen, lobbying, writing letters, holding forums, etc. You use your tactics, I'll use mine, and hopefully both will be effective.

I love Pleasantville! Mostly b/v of Tobey...but yeah, that scene is way too similar for comfort...two steps forward and one (or in this case eight) steps back, eh?

ah, but the difference between you, my dear, and our president is that he has at his fingertips the knowlege of every scholarly community, should he choose to use it. all he has to do is say "hmmm, not only do i feel strongly about this issue, but i also have the power to change the way the country looks at the points to be made. perhaps i should learn a little about how babies are formed. i guess i'll get someone to call up one of those scientists working at NIH for me ( ... )
