Back in the time of Jesus they wrapped the bodies in shreds of cloth, not just a big piece of it. While I don't think that they know exactly how the image got onto the Shroud of Turin, I believe the Shroud itself was dated to after the time of Jesus.
well...the carbon dating wasnt proof of anything, given that the shroud had been repaired, and the unrepaired portion was exposed to a fire in a small room...which could affect the decay of carbon-14, the substance by which they gauge the carbon dating and half-life measurements. cause as we know...what happens when things burn? carbon monoxide. carbon 14, if im not mistaken, which i could be, is just carbon with 14 more electrons...so with all of this HIGHLY reactive CARBON monoxide in the air, absorbed into the cloth, it very well could have affected the amount of carbon 14 in the shroud.
