So..here were my contributions to the Zoofic craze. Please don't send the men in the white coats. =/ My stuff is gosh...G I suspect, with only a slight mention of naughtiness in the BLTA version.

Interviewer: Today we'll be visiting the home of Elric authority and author Marta Dexter. Ms. Dexter is renown for her work with widowed and displaced Elrics and has written what many believe to the the definative bible on the subject: Ingenious Genetics: The Elric Survival Instinct. Thank you for allowing us into your home and sanctuary Ms. Dexter.

Dexter: It's my pleasure. I'm always grateful to share what I've learned, and educated public is the best friend an Elric can have.

Interviewer: I understand that not only do you work with the local government and many zoos across the nation but you own a special licesence to keep wild Elrics here on your property for rehabilitation purposes.

Dexter: That is correct. I work closely with T.E.R.N., that's the Elric Rescue Network, animal control agencies and zoological societies across the nation. The illegal sale of Elric kittens has been a problem for quite some time and we are hoping to find ways to remedy it.

Interviewer: Do you mind giving us a tour of your facility? Do you have any Elrics in house at the moment besides your famous Elric, Edward?

Dexter: I am currently working with a widowed Alphonse and do have a single Elric kitten taken from a collector. We also have a Mustang that unfortnately we are unable to return to the wild, he's a permanent resident now.

[The group is lead through a spacious house and through a series of double doors and into a sterile looking area complete with tables and medical cabinets]

Dexter: We house our own medical facilities that are generously funded by donations from both individuals and corporations. Sometimes when we are brought an Elric that are in very poor shape. Follow me, would you like to see Edward first? I've given him a book so I don't know how attentive he'll be but we can see if he's feeling sociable.

Interviewer: This would be the Edward that's been on the Tonight Show and several other interview shows?

Dexter: That would be the one, the famous case that brought the cruelty of Elric poaching for the profit of their kittens to light. By the time my Edward was found he was almost six years old and hopelessly dependant on human support. He was my first case and the best spokesman for his species to date. Here we are.

[Camera pans in on a large enclosure, seen though a picture window in the wall. It is open and airy with a direct outlet into a large back enclosure on the yard. There are several areas of pillows and educational toys and a large bright colored hammock strung from one corner of the room. A booted foot can be seen hanging lazily over the side]

Dexter: [enters the enclosure and speaks, can be heard through the glass] Ed? Ed do you feel like some company?

Edward: [foot swings lazily, then an arm appears and the hammock shifts as the body within it rolls over and a head peers over the edge, the eyes drop to half lidded lazy] Hey it's you, bring me another book... [the Edward breaks off abruptly as it notices the camera on the other side of the picture window] Hey, it's one of those one eyed camera things.

Dexter: Come on Ed, come down. [Dexter turns to look at the camera] I'll offer him a granola bar, that might interest him in coming closer so your viewers can get a good look at him.

Interviewer: [from other side of glass] Tell us more about his case, refresh our viewers.

Dexter: I use to be a much more active member of T.E.R.N. than I am today, I use to participate in raids and the confiscation of illegal kept Elrics. We had received a call from an anonymus tipster that said there was someone keeping an Elric kitten in a dog crate in their apartment. [Comes out of the enclosure and opens a cabinet, takes a granola snack bar from a box and re-enters enclosure] Ed, look what I have. [holds snack bar up so indifferent Elric can see what is in her hand, his nose twitches] When we arrived we dound Edward in horrific conditions, truly horrific. [She pauses, shakes her head at the unpleasant memory]

Edward: [suddenly swings out of hammock and lands on all fours, straightens and stalks over to Dexter, giving the camera a rather hostile glance. Eagerly takes granola bar when it's offered and allows a rub on his head. Fusses softly as Dexter has to help him unwrap the bar, then lingers, keeping himself between the camera and Dexter]

Dexter: [smiling] He's being protective. He thinks the camera is upsetting me. He's such an affectionate thing. It is just inconcievable how anyone could be cruel to such a lovely creature. Ed is thirteen now and thriving, while I doubt he'll ever be suitable for reintroduction into the wild, I do hope to find him an Alphonse of his own.

Interviewer: You said you were housing a widowed Alphonse right now.

Dexter: Yes, but he's much older than my Edward and wild caught, not hand raised as this Edward here. I am however slowly introducing the kitten to him. We're hoping that if we can get him to foster the kitten we might be able to save him. He's been very inconsoleable since the passing of his Edward, that is how he ended up here.

Interviewer: Tell us more about Edward's arrival into your care.

Dexter: Right. As I said we got a tip and sadly found it to be true. Edward was locked in a dog crate, the kind you use in airlines. I believe he'd been confined there for most of his short life. He had trouble standing upright when we brought him out, he was terribly under weight, there were several nights when I thought I would lose him. We later learned that he had a littermate, purchased at the same time, but it had died and been disposed of. Edward was very traumatized, hostile, aggressive, distrusting. [she reaches out and rubs Edward's head again and he looks at her curiously, mouth full of granola bar] Sometimes he would just lie and mew as if seeking his littermate, that's when I decided to make a documentary and show the world just how cruel the private collecting of Elric kittens could be.

Interviewer: 'Ed' caused quite a stir when it was released on public stations.

Dexter: In a good way, donations poured in, I was able to get a grant and license and this sancturary was purchased. I spent a long time refurbishing it. But as you can see, he's come a long way from the scrawny, frothing thing he was in that film.

Edward: [has decided his psuedo-mate is not in harms way, retreats from the petting back to his hammock now that the granola bar is gone. Tosses the book he's finished out onto the floor and looks hopefully in Dexter's direction]

Dexter: He's insastiable. Not until tomorrow you impatient thing. [leaves enclosure and gestures to be followed down the hall]

[Camera pans to another large picture window. This enclosure isn't as big as Edward's but it's still roomy. It's furnished very differently with a large plush leather wing backed chair, a desk and a row of tall filing cabinets and a bed. Lounging on top of the filing cabinets is a Mustang, half of it's face obscured by a large black patch, it glances at the camera, then away]

Dexter: This is our Mustang, majestic isn't he? He loves to lie on top of those cabinets.

Interviewer: How did he come to be in your care and what happened to his face?

Dexter: He was in a small disorangnized municipal zoo. I often campaign against allowing the smaller zoos to carry such exotics. An Edward managed to scale a fence between their enclosures and maim him. After the incident he went into a decline, a group of concerned college students contacted me and helped to raise the money to purchase him and we brought him here. He's rather docile for a Mustang, but he's not approachable as Edward is, he shys if anyone enters his enclosure. We just let the old fellow be.

[The camera follows her further down the corridor. This time the picture window is curtained off and Dexter pauses outside to shrug on a red Elric pelt and a blonde wig]

Dexter: We are hoping to rehabilitate and release our kitten, so I minic to the best of my ability an Edward parent. I'll open the curtains once I'm inside but please try not to move about much and draw his attention.

[Dexter enters the enclosure and there is some instant noises, high pitched and excited. After a few moments the curtains part and Dexter's leg is being clung to by an Elric kitten, old enough to be noticably an Edward.]

Dexter: [crooning softly] You're a good boy, you're a good boy, shall we see our Alphonse today?

[The kitten is making all kinds of happy, excited gibberish sounds and Dexter gently pries him off of her leg and goes to the adjoining wall where there is another curtain. She draws is back slowly and it opens onto a ¾ glass wall. There is a den constructed of wood and carpet, but the open back of the den is against the glass wall with a stip of steel mesh running along the bottom. A figure is inside. The kitten is instantly curious and presses it's nose and hands to the glass, Dexter stands off to the side. The kitten's nose is twitching furiously and it makes a mew. The figure in the den stirs a bit and moves closer to the glass. It is an Alphonse.]

Alphonse: [shows some interest in the kitten for a moment, notices Dexter and stares at her for a long moment before heaving a resigned sigh, settles down again.]

Kitten: [gets on hands and knees and presses nose to the mesh, inhaling deeply, mews again]

Alphonse: [twitches at each of the kittens plaintive cries, but doesn't sit up again]

Dexter: [finally draws the curtain closed on the glass wall and heads for the curtains that cover the picutre window. The kitten must know this routine means Dexter is going to leave the room and it wails and runs after her, clinging to her leg. Dexter spends many long moments petting his hair and stroking his back and trying to comfort it, finally the curtains are closed and after a few minutes more Dexter comes out of the room, shedding the pelt and wig. The kitten can be heard crying behind the door. Dexter glances up and the camera and away again.] It's very hard to leave him in there by himself, but we're trying to do what is right and limit his human interacations. If I don't then I'll have another Edward. I know that doesn't seem like a bad thing, but this kitten is a wild creature and belongs in the wild where it can raise it's own family someday. It makes me furious to think it was torn from it's family. It makes me furious to think it's family might be dead... [she shakes her head, hangs up the coat and wig and stands at the door for a moment longer as the kitten's cries issue from the other side.]

Interviewer: Is there hope the Alphonse will foster it?

Dexter: There is, he seems responsive at times, but he's gone into a 'widow apathy' that many Alphonses never recover from. It's a day to day struggle for these poor creatures. I wish as humans we'd learn to leave well enough alone, then I wouldn't have to be caring for Elrics.

Interviewer: We wish to thank you for your time Ms. Dexter and your enlightment into the plight of this endangered species. If we can continue to spread the knowledge you've shared then perhaps our children will still be able to see Elrics in the wild as they are meant to be. This is Zip Spiceland along with Marta Dexter, thank you for watching, and goodnight.

Epilogue

Interviewer: It's been two months since our visit with Marta Dexter and the airing of the Elric special we filmed in her home and sanctuary. Today we'd like to show a follow-up to let people see with hardwork and decication on the behalf of people like Marta and other concerned citizens there can be happy endings.

[As the camera enters the house Edward is perched on the back of the sofa and perks up instantly, he leaps off the sofa and rushes the camera, there is a shot of his gloved hand over the lens then Marta Dexters voice: 'No Edward, Ed come here, look I'll let you read the paperback I just finished, look!' Edward abruptly releases the camera lens and darts to the side, the camera pans to follow him and we see him eagerly taking a book from his indulgent keeper then crawling into a nearby chair and opening the book and poking his nose into it.]

Dexter: [laughing] He is always fascinated by cameras. As you can see Ed is tame enough to let roam about the house, I have no fear of him wandering off because he's established the sanctuary as his home territory, so sometimes I let him out during the day. He is excellent company but sometimes to curious for his own good.

Interviewer: Thank you for inviting us back Ms. Dexter, I understand you have a success story on your hands.

Dexter: I do and I'm very pleased to share it with you. After you aired your special more donations rolled in, it's been very good for us around here. [Dexter pats Edward on the head a couple of times] You be good, we're going into the sanctuary.

Edward: [barely looks up as the camera moves to follow Dexter through the house and back into the sanctuary.]

[The camera follows Dexter through the house to the sanctuary and down a hall to where there is a different enclosure than the one previously seen. The camera pans in on the large picture window and inside. This enclosure is very much like Edward's with outside access and it's strewn with toys and pillows and a large carpeted den against the back wall. The camera zooms in a bit on the den where the Alphonse from the previous documentary is sitting with the Elric kitten, also from the previous documentary, in it's lap. The kitten appears to be eating bits of apple it's new Alphonse parent has bitten off for it and it's Alphonse parent is grooming it's hair.]

Dexter: As you can now see the fostering has been a complete success. We've managed to introduce the two together, now the Alphonse will be saved from dying of inue and the kitten has a parent to raise it. We are very pleased. Alphonses' are such gentle creatures, it took instantly to the orphaned kitten when we introdcued him into the enclosure. As you saw previously we let them get use to one another through visual stimuli and smell while in side by side enclosures. I want to personally thank your viewers, many of our little Edward's toys were direct donations. He's very happy and loves them all.

Interviewer: This is such a beautiful ending to what could have been an otherwise tragic situation for that poor Alphonse. We at channel 29 are very proud to have helped in whatever way we could and we'd like to thank the generous hearts of our loyal viewers.

Edward: [suddenly comes pelting down the hall, squeezes up to the glass and peers in, raps the glass with the spine of the paperback book.]

Alphonse: [startles, half hisses, gathers its kitten in and slides back into the recesses of the den]

Dexter: Ed, no, you know better. He's excited because we have company and he's a bit jealous as well I'm sure. He's use to being the center of attention. [Dexter gently shoo's Ed from the glass and Ed glances down the hall] Don't you go off teasing that Mustang either, you're going back in your enclosure if you keep this up.

Interviewer: We thank you so much for your time and letting us do a follow up to that magnificent piece from a couple of months ago. It's very gratifiying that things worked out so well.

Edward: [watching the camera, gets a wicked gleam, turns around, yanks his pelt up and pushes his pants down, camera quickly pans away]

Dexter: Edward! [exasperated] Ok enough stimulous for you!

Interviewer: [laughing] Once again this is Zip Spiceland, on behalf of the channel 29 crew we'd like to thank Marta Dexter, Edward and all the viewers. Goodnight!

Documentary Maker: [whispering] Here we see the clever Mustang has laid a trap. Ham sandwiches, mixed nuts, noodles with meat sauce and the daily news digest. He's lying in wait over behind that couch for the Professor variant of Edward to show up. And he's right on time, he's come in the door, desposited his briefcase and glasses in his den and his now sniffing toward the offering set out so cleverly on a 'coffee table'. This ploy is a favorite trick of Mustangs. It looks like the Professor Edward has taken the bait, see the Mustang gather on it's haunches to attack. He leaps and springs, there is now a spectacular tussle that's ended up on the sofa and they are...wait a minute...wait a mintue...the Mustang seems to be chewing the Professor Edward's pelts off and what's that he'd doing with his fingers there...OY! Stop taping!

Tourist: omg, there's one, look *fiddles with camera and zooms in*
Tourist wife: Oh, don't get to close honey...
Ling: [looks up, noodles hanging fron its mouth, slurps them down, grins huge, throws up hand] Hi!
Tourist: It's like it's waving for the camera! That's amazing!
Tourist wife: We should go back to the tour group
Ling: [stands stretches, suddenly charges the camera]

[Lot's of screaming ensues and the camera angle goes crazy, many scenes of no coherency, then shouting is heard more in the distance and the camera autofocus tries to zoom in on the face of the Ling peering directly into the lens.]

Tourist: [sounding far off] Give that back!
Tourist wife: Honey! It could be dangerous, just let him have it!
Ling: [keeps poking at the lens, mouth flattens out, yawns, tosses camera over shoulder]

[more disjointed images as camera lands on ground, then it's jostled and picked up, we see the tourists face anxiously inspecting it, then something strikes the tourist on the head and he yelps and looks up, camera halfway pointing up too]

Tourist: Dammit, what was that?
Tourist wife: It's throwing fruit, let's go before it does anything else!

Ling: [observing tourst and tourist wife leaving] Bye! [waves]
