and because I have been interested in computers for years and used to work on them (basic stuff). My parents had suggested this career and so had teachers. No I know more about it, it's still interesting but lots of work.
But still worth it all because the salaries are very high and there are plenty of jobs out there in the world.
Of course, if you really want to learn to do anything, you have to teach yourself...university classes are just for the paper and the professors giving commentary to the the textbooks.

just went back to uni for engineering...and now I have to catch up on all the things that I'm supposed to know but haven't done in 10 years. ;-)
