Summary: Neal makes a mistake. Peter doesn’t punch him in the face for it.

It was late into the evening when Peter looked at his watch and declared it was time for him to go home. Cleaning up the remains of dinner took little time and Peter set his beer bottles on the counter to be recycled.

“You don’t have to go. You can stay here tonight.”

Peter shook his head. “Thanks for the offer, but I want to get home to Elizabeth. Even though she should be sound asleep.”

They hugged goodbye. Peter pulled back, but Neal didn’t. Instead one hand cupped the side of Peter’s face and they both knew what was going to happen. They kissed. Twice. Closed mouth and almost platonic. Peter gave a little sigh before saying, “Neal.”

It was a tone Neal heard many times over the last few weeks. Since his head injury he struggled to make sense of his memories and sometimes he got things wrong. “We’re not...lovers?” He still hadn’t let Peter go.

He shook his head. Peter felt like he should apologize, but didn’t.

Neal backed away from Peter and absently scratched the back of his head where his stitches were healing. “Are you sure?”

“I would be the one who would know.”
