Confounded redneck

As much as I love skydivers, sometimes they simply confound me. Being on the Board of Directors for USPA is an elected position. So, in essense, you could say that I'm a politician. Man I hate that. Like any "political" organization or elected position, every one (of the roughly 35,000) knows (in their opinion) how to do my job better than I do ( Read more... )

USPA Woes skysprite January 29 2004, 14:53:56 UTC
More accessable hu? I think skydivers just like to have something to whine about! Please know that there are some of us out there that appreciate all that the USPA and its board members do for us and the advancement of the sport. I have to agree about the Parachutist magazine being read cover to cover almost religiously. I love it and really like the USPA for it, esp. during these winter months!

Hope things get better and skygods complain less :)

You're right about skydiver's whining. I guess I'm doing the same thing in this journal. I should spank myself.

I just measured the stack of Parachutists on our toilet tank and it's about eighteen inches high. Very distracting.

As for the contact thing, as a newbie I haven't really ever had reason to want to get in touch with you powers that be, but in the course of scrutinizing all these Parachutists I had noticed the plethora of contact info and I remember being very impressed.

You'd probably be interested in knowing that Parachutist is the product of basically one girl (Nancy Koreen) working her ass off in HQ, she's amazing.

Cheryl and I used to have the 18 incher on the rear of the toilet, till we decided it needed to be cleaned up. The end result is 3 to 6 inch piles of Parachutist all over the house.

Why is insurance the big thing? I thought DZs and USPA used to have large insurance plans but after sue happy people in the 80s neglected it. Now since most firms (DZs, etc) have no insurance people don't sue as often. I was talking to an old timer about this.

Stories of evil uspa members would be funny :)

A lot of skydiving companies have moved to having no type of liability insurance, Relative Workshop being a prime example. Most DZ's can't afford it. Many are required to have it to gain access to airport property, and they meet the requirement through USPA's group membership program. As a group member, each skydiver is required to be a USPA member, and through their individual membership, are covered through USPA's third party liability program. Since each skydiver jumping at the DZ is insuranced (even though it's a very basic policy), this meets the DZ airport requirements, which they otherwise would not be able to afford ( ... )
