I have been heard to say that she's "dumber than a box of rocks," but that she's also very sweet. From the perspective of someone who has been owned by the Arabian mind all of her life, this is true.
Another perspective: The last few Percherons I transported were all twice her size, more than twice as dumb, NOT sweet, tried to kill Marcus and me, and destroy the trailer. That makes me come home, hug her neck, apologize and swear to never insult her intelligence again.
She is riding, driving, doing mounted security, and get this, jumping. Yessir. She jumped a five foot fence at liberty, nothing but air, this past weekend. (Unplanned. She was running away from a Belgian gelding much larger than herself.)
*hugs* how are you and Zorro doing? (Anytime you want to run off together - let me know.)
Well, maybe one of the smarter boxes of rocks then. There's a lot to be said for a big gentle sweet natured horse, even if you are accustomed to speedy arabians.
Zorro remains as deftly intelligent and as much of a destructive lunk as ever, but I am far better at being the right human for him now, which basically means I'm a whole lot tougher and I give him no lassitude. He likes it better that way.
Today we spent a while working at liberty, I got a nice halt to canter to halt just from him staying with me and reflecting the changes in my movement. Pretty sweet. But then the other day he did make a teeth-first lunge for my groin, so you know, cuts both ways. He's an awesome trail horse these days though, we've grown up a whole lot, the both of us.
