i wonder how opposed i should be to using my credit to buy a new computer????? definately a time to ask the parents, who are good mostly for financial things, and i'd also like some input from friends (aka, YOU!) if you have any, thanks.

how long will it take you to pay off the computer? if it's very long, you'll end up paying a ton extra in interest. just something to think about. good luck!

Perhaps you can get a new card with 0% financing for 12 months, a lot of cards are doing that now. I opened a bank account with Chase and their card has that feature-- that's helpful.

You'd have no interest to pay off as long as you could pay for it in one year.

even if you got a card with no interest for the first several months you'd be dealing with worse rates in the long run

i wouldn't look at credit without having a clear idea of how long you'll be paying it back
like juicyjess said you'll end up paying multiples of what you borrowed... if you think you don't have money now just wait

as my father says those that understand interest earn it, those that don't pay it

Opening a credit card for one thing is not a good idea. But if you get a best buy card, anything you buy that's over 300 will be zero percent financing for 6 months, and usually when you open a new card it'll be zero percent for twelve months. That's how i got this laptop. Although getting a comp from best buy isn't always a good idea, but only because of Geek Squad. They can't fix shit, so they have to send the comps out to the makers to have them fixed which takes about a month. Of course, i paid 1400 for my baby and i paid 500 in check, my parents gave me 200 for christmas and i put 800 on my card. I also worked about 50 hrs weekly at pep boys so i could pay 200 a month on the thing ( ... )
