Sorry to hear about your illnesses. My prayers are going out to you that your recovery is as hasty and painless as possible. As for the whole learning Japanese, it's tough, but once you understand how the grammar works, you'll understand it. I tried studying Japanese years ago, but I didn't quite understand it much myself.
