I understand that it's sometimes genetics. I have a few overweight friends that are NOT overweight because of bad diet or lack of exercise, but because of medical reasons ( ... )

I would be surprised if any insurance companies would pay for it. My insurance eliminated this surgery from its benefits over a year ago and that was for adults. I'm sure parents don't have approx $35,000. to spend on this kind of operation for their children.

As a kid who was fat since I was young and had NO medical reason to be...your approach would have been tremendously flawed. You see, skinny girl, you've not ever lived a life where you were the 200# girl DOING physical activities, eating carrots and veggies and salads. You weren't the fat kid that despite playing soccer AND ice hockey AND horseback riding AND working on the farm, you were still fat. And you weren't the kid who didn't ever WATCH tv because one, you only got boring channels at home, there was no cable and mom wouldn't turn on the TV except for dad during the news and evening shows.....forget the computer (atari wha?) and there was no soda or shit in the house.

Yes, people get fat for other reasons. I can't say that WLS is going to be a solution, but it might be an adjunct for some folks for whom all other avenues have not been entirely successful.

Folks like me.
