... And am I really allowed to essay on Touga and Saionji when other people have probably done it over and over and more interestingly than I can phrase it? SIGH. WELL, WHATEVER, I CAN TRY. Let's see how much I can get down in a coherent fashion. Haha this is going to fail.

Once upon a time there were two wee and tender faggots. Those were magical times, full of innocence and light and shouta shorts, before Touga became a giant dick and also a manwhore. Back when Touga still paid attention to him. (gay) Which, I think, is the root of the entire problem. The jealousy is the most obvious flaw in their relationship, but it's not as blatantly stated that the reason for that jealousy is really rooted in Saionji feeling that Touga left him behind THAT DAY, WITH THE COFFINS. (gay)

Which is obviously on the mend now, what with all the, uh... motorcycling. (gay) And shirts flying open. (GAY) And Saionji agreeing to be Touga's Rose Bride. (REALLY, REALLY GAY) And Saionji's character development in the last arc largely focuses

...and by this point I'm rambling. To sum up, Saionji still thinks Touga is a shallow manipulative asshole, but he's on his way to accepting that that probably won't change anytime soon, and that despite all that, buried underneath all the dickery and shameless whoring, there's still the wonderful endearing qualities that made Touga his BEST FRIEND 4EVER. ... Whatever the hell that was in the first place.

And now the part with more homosexuality in it than normal, which I'm sure you were waiting for: Saionji is really, really gay for Touga. He is also in a whole lot of denial about how gay he is for Touga. SERIOUSLY, WHAT'S A LITTLE BUTTSEX BETWEEN BEST FRIENDS? IT TOTALLY DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING. DAMMIT.

Ema and Aerrow first! Though they only met that one time, Ema liked Aerrow quite a bit. He's heroic and cheerful and full of justice and his one glaring character flaw is his unfortunate lack of flowing bishounen locks. She doesn't regret lasersquirreling him, because Ema never regrets lasersquirreling anyone, but she might think a little bit harder about not doing it in the future. She has made a mental note to inquire further about the state of his hair soon.

And now Saionji on Juri (BUT NOT LIKE THAT). Obviously this is all speculation because canon doesn't love us enough to actually let us interact... um... ever, so this is all speculation! But it's my speculation, which makes it special

So! Saionji's first impression of Mitsuru, which remains intact, is that she's some TERRIBLE UNGODLY FUSION of Utena and Juri. Which is pretty much the single most unpleasant thing he can imagine. He doesn't like that she thinks she has some kind of right to call herself president, although deep down in the part of his brain where he keeps everything he's in denial of (it's a large part), he knows that she's more than deserving of the title, which is what really gets him. He also hates that she thinks she's better than him, a fact which is magnified to enormous proportions in his head, which only makes him act even more like a jerk around her, which compounds the problem, which makes him hate her even more, etc. inferiority complex etc. etc.

BASICALLY: THE MORE SHE TOPS HIM, THE MORE HE HATES HER, AND THE MORE SHE WILL CONTINUE TO TOP HIM.
