I just want to learn Spanish. I was taught in elementary school by my grandmother from kindergarten to fifth grade. I was never very dedicated because she was my grandmother, so of course I got good grades. And I won't lie, I never studies for her tests and me and the other girls would "help" each other (in particular I remember Christine " ( Read more... )

Go for it. You're a very smart girl. Skip intro Spanish, where you won't learn anything, and try to get into the higher level.

And if you can't? Drop it anyway. Don't waste a year with a teacher who can't teach you anything, and who will waste the most valuable thing you have--your time. Drop it, and teach yourself, either during the year or during summer, or find a tutor. You definitely should not stay in that class!

I know you can do it.

But what's wrong with Castilian? :P

Buena suerte!

Adam is right, Jina'; I agree with him that you should jump ahead to the next level where it sounds like you will be much more comfortable, and learn much more than you would otherwise. You are one of the smartest, most determined people I know, so I am assured that even though it will probably be more challenging for you to be in this upper level class, I very much doubt that you will feel as aggravated and upset with the introductory course that you are in now ( ... )

I will have to agree with both Adam and Meridi... it would push you to learn better.. if you took Spanish 1 then you may not take it as seriously since it's all intro stuff. You could in theory take the class over again if you didn't think you did so well.. right? or at least if you didn't you could take Spanish at Happy Valley over the summer.

I am sure you will do just fine Jiná.. you are a smart girl!

Just think I took one of Edinburgh Uni's hardest classes.. a language class and i didn't think I would surive and I did! lol!

why are you worried about not having a basic grounding? you said yourself you can conjugate senteces and know basic words. You come from a spanish speaking family! That's definitely what I would call a basic grounding. go for it Jina'! you can do it! and if you need any help, get your grandma to tutor you!
