would it be super awkward of me to just kind of ask how hard it is to flash an xbox anyway

Not at all, because I don't know. XD

I had read a bunch of different articles on how to do it, got confused, and just gave it to someone who knew what they were doing to flash it. He only charged me $75 for it, but I don't believe that's a typical price.
