LJ Idol: When You Pray, Move Your Feet

Oct 21, 2011 23:08

This is the first of what I hope to be many entries in the contest known as LJ Idol, in which one writes entries based on given prompts, and they are voted off the island if deemed not good enough by the masses, of course! Even though I'm writing on prompts, there should be enough autobiographical navel-gazing to keep my usual readers entertained. ( Read more... )

Good luck escaping Phoenix! I'm attempting also, though I'm aiming for the MidWest, to be close to family.

Like you, I find some of the yards here totally ridiculous.

This summer has been the worst, in part because it's NOT OVER YET. Where is our not-as-hot season?

What really confuses me are the golf courses. Really, Phoenix? Really?

Thank you! Applying for jobs from out of state puts me at a distinct disadvantage, so I need all the help I can get. :3

Hey I graduated from UCSC too! Good luck achieving your dreams! I like Seattle too. I think it's a great place, despite the rain and dreariness. I've been there a couple times and I really just fall in love with it...

I hopehopehope you get to Seattle soon! I know what you mean about people pretending they don't live in the desert. I hate flying into Phoenix or Las Vegas and see vast brown desert scape for miles and then to see this unnatural swatch of the greenest green. It disgusts me. You describe it perfectly when you say they are in denial of the climate they live in.

Finger crossies for Puget Sound Blood!

I know how all this goes. I wanted to move to Southern California and was applying from St. Louis, MO...trying to find a job out here. It did come when I least expected it, so don't give up on that dream.

Though now that I'm here, Portland or Seattle seems to be calling my name and maybe one day? Who knows.

I met a woman at a Las Vegas convention who told me that when she bought her house, it had a huge, lush backyard...grass which required watering and water they were short on. She dug it all up and put down fake grass and a mini-golf area. People said she was nuts, but there was no way she was going to waste water on grass.

This piece was written very well. I liked it a lot and I am hoping you will get your dream job in your dream city soon enough :)
