Closed; A Few Late Nights

May 11, 2014 20:05

Now that Harry was back at work and his schedule was filling up, a lot of late nights and working through the weekend, the two of them had decided to set aside at least two nights a week to have a 'date night'. Mostly the two of them shared dinner together and a movie, simple but she felt like they saw little of each other lately that she didn't ( Read more... )

The moment he walked through the door something familiar hit him. The entire house was silent, not even Reid or Kreacher making any noise as he came through the hallway. He felt as if this had happened before. When his tired feet finally reached the sitting room, it was as if all the color drained from his face. They had a date. He rubbed at his face, exhausted from the day he had led, as he leaned in the door jam. This had happened before, but the girlfriend was different ( ... )

Skylar shifted onto her back and groaned softly as he pulled her awake, her eyes opening slowly. It took a minute for everything to come back into view and make sense, completely forgetting that she had laid down in the first place.

"Harry? Hey-" she murmured, grinning in that sleepy way as she started to pull herself into the sitting position.

That was when she noticed the candles and the flowers, everything that she had set up for the two of them tonight.

He felt back onto his heels as she pushed herself up into a sitting position. There was a look on her face that brought a frown to his lips, knowing that these late nights weren't exactly easy for her, knowing that he was out working in some impossibly dangerous situations and there was nothing she could do about them.

He rose to his feet slowly, his hand rubbing at the back of his neck.

"I'm alright-" he said, even as he shifted his back, feeling it crack slightly. "It's um-" he paused to look at his watch. "Um- late-"

He laughed awkwardly.

"I'm sorry-" he told her. "Work was-"

He shook his head.

"I'm sorry-"

"Busy again?" she asked, running her fingers through her hair, pulling at a few knots until it was smooth again. Or well, at least not a tangled mess.

Skylar looked around the room, chewing at the inside of her lip. Everything was still set up, the candles still glowing and the drinks on ice, though there was a puddle growing there at the base of the bucket.

The food must have been ice cold.

The disappointment was written all over Skylar's face. She was still in that semi-sleep state that she couldn't hide it from him.

"It's okay. I'll um- I'll clean all this up."
