I've seen some criticism of the secret, that it's something that the boys already know, that they face the possibility of having to kill the other every day they hunt, and it's nothing new. I don't agree with that at all. It's not just a possibility anymore, it's a command from their own father that Sam needs to be killed if Dean can't save him. The secret is not the fact that Dean might have to kill Sam, or that Sam might turn evil; but the fact that John thought so and that he knew enough to think that Sam might need to be killed. God, I can't imagine what that feels like, to hear that from your own father.I know, RIGHT? Once you think about, it's just devastating. It's one thing to have a thought. It's totally another to be given an instruction. LIKE THAT. But I'm in this show for the emotional aspect, so I'm glad the secret was more intregal to that than the mytharc which could go...anywhere. After all these talks about patterns, the whole thing just seems so arbitrary at this point. Totally only gave me more questions, but hey,

WORD. The secret isn't about some elaborate twist that OMG SAM IS NOT A WINCHESTER but about them as brothers, as a family. And I love that about the show. How very Supernatural that the secret isn't anything to do with the plot, but everything to do with the emotional aspect of the characters.
However, the mytharc does seem a bit all over the place at the moment. I mean, the "mother burning on the ceiling" was a great visual and great pattern, and doing away with that was...I don't know. I felt a bit cheated in Simon Said when they revealed there is no pattern after all, and even more confused now. I do have the feeling from interviews and other things that Kripke & co have a plan, I just hope they execute it well. And that when all is revealed, it wouldn't contradict with things that happened in, say, Season 1.....*is worried*
I heard some people thought it was OOC for the boys. It's not

Yay, some commentary that isn't only about the almost hug! Hee!
I too am confused about the pattern and the ones that don't fit the pattern and...and...confused. Let's just hope they have this all figured out already. Yes, I'm sure they do. /pollyanna
And I haven't seen anyone mention Ava yet. So much Ava love, here. :-)
If they do hug in an episode, LJ would explode. =D

Hee! I have a feeling that they do have it figured out. But is what they've figured out actually good? That I don't have as much faith in...Heeee.
Aw, I like Ava too! Poor girl probably is now either possessed/kidnapped/being turned into an evil soldier. But I've seen lots of Ava love in other reviews of the eps, so she's well liked! :)
Well whether he's the demon's son or not, he still got tons more human empathy and kindness than the totally human Gordon. Which, IMO, was kind of the point of that episode. And it again brings up the point about do you kill something or someone just because it is demonic or because it's killing.

Yeah, and I can see why they can't let Sam go dark in this episode because of that. :) This theme is going to make their hunt that much harder though!
