It's been a long day and it still isn't over. Today we enrolled Destin in school. They've started him off as a sophomore even though he has no credits. The counsler said that he'd be in close touch with Destin's teachers and that if he did very well and the course material was too easy for him, they would move him up to junior classes. Destin

Okay, you lost me.

How can he start school without his GED? I'm pretty damned sure that you need proof of graduation before any college will accept you. Also, what are they going to count for his freshman year credits? You need X-amount of credits and X-number of required classes before you can graduate.

He isn't enrolled in college. He's been enrolled in the high school. Destin wasn't listed as a dropout but as being homeschool. They've given him credits for freshman year and enrolled him in the sophomore core classes but junior electives. If he does well and skips up in a month or so to the junior classes then he will be able to graduate with his class and get a real diploma. If he is not able to recieve enough credits he can attend an alternative learning program where they school half day and work half day. Then when his class graduates he would take a ged test. Destin wants a real diploma however and to go to the regular classes so we are saving the al program in case graduation isn't an option. Because he scored well on his tests however, the counselor is very optimistic and is hoping for the best.

Well, I hope so. I guess I'm just confused as to how he can be out there (I thought he was at least 18) and how he can go to school there. But I guess so long as it's working out that's good for him.

Hi Jamie, It's Peter...Chris' nephew. I got my wisdom teeth pulled out a month ago and I was fine later that day. I got all this vicodin and I didn't have to take any of it. Tell Destin if he ever needs help with History he can email me. That's my favorite subject and and am well versed in it. I can name all the presidents in a row but that would just bore you. Thanks for the wisdom teeth info Peter, I am really hoping my extraction will turn out the way yours did because I am going to be so busy that week. I will pass on the history information to Destin. You might also like to know that Chris has decided to major in History so now the two of you will be able to talk for hours about all things historic.
