Now that I'm finally starting to get all the necessary tools for fursuit building, I find myself getting excited over the silliest things. I received my electric clippers in the mail the other day (Wahl Contour kit) and got to play with them last night--EXCITING. I'm ordering a mannequin head and balaclava off ebay today--EXCITING. You and I are in the same boat. Believe me. Getting things in the mail is going to become MAGICAL. Every little purchase will make you happy, buying new scissors, clippers, fur, masks, heads, supplies to make it all amazing!

Tiny bit curious, are you getting into fursuit building for hobby or for it to be your job? Not important just crossed my mind :P

It's SO FUN. I forgot to add that I also got a slicker brush...it's just not normal to get excited over that, yet here we are ;)

Just a hobby for now. I'm not averse to the idea of selling things in the future if I could make that work, but I have a FT job and a busy life in general, so it would likely just be selling things here and there--nothing steady. And since I'm such a rookie this is all conjecture!

That said, I've actually considered sewing for a living (I design bags and such) but leaving the security of a FT job when I have rent and bills (and vacation!) is a tough proposition. But lemme tell ya, I spend a good chunk of my time at work thinking about it, so who knows...

I know what you mean. This is all I have to support myself right now. Commissions are coming in kind of at a steady pace so I'm able to keep up with bills but hoping with more practice I'll get better, word will get around and I could turn this into a full time thing :D

That's great! If you're getting steady commissions things should only improve as you get better.

Something in your favor, and something that's made me think about selling fursuit work, is that the fandom is growing FAST. I've been lurking for years and there are way, way more suit makers and builders--all who appear to have work--than there were 5 years ago. So there appears to be plenty of business to go around!
