Perfection and negligence…. The potential in you
If you just spend half a day with me, you will know that I am not perfect (laugh). When I am already at the entrance of my house but I realize that I forgot something, I quietly wear my shoes in to take them (laugh). But somehow I am seen as someone who is highly sensitive to the surroundings. Also, I am seen as a leader who leads others. So during interviews, it feels that they expect such comments from me… or rather the writer shows it out, but while answering, I do think “I’m sorry, I always don’t give such comments!” (laugh)
Someone whom you don’t want to show your flaws to
In the past, when someone tells me “Try doing it”, even if that is over my own capacity, I cannot say no. For a recent episode, it was Takizawa Kabuki last year. It has been around for almost 10 years and it isn’t exaggerating to say that it is a completed great piece of work. When Tackey asked me “are you okay?” I raise my own hurdle and say “Definitely okay”. Kitayama was in the stageplay with me and he was really frank and could say things like “Nope, this is tough” and I am a little envious of that (laugh). When I was young and received instructions from Johnny-san, I would reply “I can do it!” without any conditions so I cant pull out from this habit now. Thinking of this, if I had replied “No I cant do it” it would probably feel like i am not myself now.
Would you prefer the girl you like to be perfect or a little negligent?
It will feel like I am blind to my own shortcomings, but I like clean people. My own mother is also a neat freak and my house is often sparkling clean. The person who bathes last will be the one to drain out the water and wipe all the moisture in the bathtub before leaving, that was the rule in the Yabu household, but I think every single household in Japan is like that (laugh). I was brought up by such a mother, so I think such a person like that is definitely good after all.

Recently, I eat with Chinen once or twice a week. That guy, he is someone I can eat at ease with even without talking. Eh, the difference with eating with Tottsu? With Tottsu, we just keep praising each other… (laugh). “You are really great. I think you are someone who deserves to be rewarded”, we have this promise to praise each other non stop (laugh)

I am probably right in the middle. I have a dust allergy so I have to clean the house well. I also do laundry and wash my utensils properly, so I guess I am a bit of a cleanliness freak too. When someone comes in holding a garbage bag, I understand some people will try not to smell it, but for me I somehow hold my breath. ….Eh? I don’t show the negligent side of me (laugh). Ah, I have one! I use the same towel for three days! Depending on the person, some people wash their towels everyday, but for the Yaotome family, we have been doing so since before, so I am not concerned about it.

Especially when I am on variety shows, I don’t show the shy side of myself and I don’t talk about it too. Because the other party will try to take note of it and there will be some distance between us. After that, when I say things like “I am actually a really shy person” they normally get shocked (laugh). The most nervous part of work is reading the script during a drama. We all sit together in a meeting room and all the actors read out the script but there are people who really put all their feelings into it as if it was the real thing and there are people who are not like that too. I am the type who puts a little bit of feelings in it.

A girl who is a little clumsy is good. I am not the annoying type who keeps nagging at others. If she just leaves her pyjamas lying around in the room? I will keep quiet, pick it up and fold it properly for her. I am even fine if she cooks ramen for three consecutive days (laugh). I am someone who eats only udon during concerts so I am totally fine with eating the same thing continuously. But if she is a detailed person, I am also a detailed person so I will notice if she takes extra care to cook with a different genre.
Recent updates
Around March last year, I ordered and custom made an original bass. And it is not completed yet. It was supposed to be completed around October last year but it seems that I was too fussy (laugh). I was particular about the kind of materials they use for the mechanics inside in order for it to produce a good sound, and I also gave instructions on what kind of coating I want. I had wanted to use it for the tour this time but even if it is completed I have to tune and set it so it is probably not in time. I have been waiting too long!
