He doesn't *have* to. The ceremony to bring someone into the pack is sort of considered a marriage, so they'd have to be together a *long* time before anyone would mention it. It's a big decision--if you get bitten and taken in, it's permanent, so you don't want to join just to get with someone you'll break up with three weeks later. But if they decided to stay together, Ben would probably end up doing that.
(Anyway, Andy's generalizing. His pack technically includes members of his extended family scattered across the US, quite a few of whom have human partners. But I figured that wasn't important enough to mention.)
