Possibly...

I'm thinking of closing down skyspun.org and just keeping my journal here. With the idea of starting up my portfolio and photoblog over at Arista Photography soon, and the fact that I am lately feeling the pressure of updating something at Skyspun just because I'm paying for it so I should be updating... It just feels like more trouble than it's ( Read more... )

nothing, skyspun, rambling, tidbits, website

In the end, it's up to you as to how you want it. My blog is my website, though, because I use WP from wordpress.org. haha.

I'll follow you here, obviously. :) I don't think people who are not themselves LJ users will be so easily persuaded though, unless they're really, really into your blog (and I'm not saying that they aren't!). I used to post different things on my domain blog and on my LJ, but eventually it got to be too much - now I crosspost from my blog to my LJ.

lol Glad to know you'll follow me here. :P and I know what you mean about people who aren't LJ users. In the end, I feel like I want to write more for myself than for anyone else - I've gotten past the years where I felt like I needed to blog to get comments and be heard. So if someone wants to follow me here, awesome. If not, then it's no big loss.

I used to crosspost to my old LJ a lot, too. What's your domain?

Oh, haha, I just realised my LJ username doesn't exactly match any other username of mine. ;) I'm Renate, of renate.nu / renatesol on Twitter. :D

If I paid anymore for my hosting, I don't think I'd keep it. I only pay $45/yearly. I'll never let my domains go, just cuz they are so mine. I don't host anyone anymore. I've never been a "blogger." I kept journals at personal sites years ago, but since the internet's not the same hang out it used to be, and I like to keep everything locked up so I can be controlling, I write only here these days. Personally, I find it easier to read LJ then weblogs anyway. I like having everything in one place. RSS feeds just aren't the same, you know?

PS that said, I have unlimited add on domains (and just about unlimited everything else) so if you wanted to retain your domain, or have a site again, the space is all yours.

It's funny you mention that about finding it easier to read LJ than weblogs. I was just saying the same thing over at ljremix the other day. RSS feeds are nifty and all, but LJ brings everything into one neat little package.

And the net really isn't the same place it used to be, is it? I feel like an old woman. "Back in MY day..."

I just saw your last comment so I'm going to try again since your blog now came up. Let me know if this works?

Here's what I was trying to put up last time:

-----------

I find myself thinking that all the time as well, the only thing is that I hope one day to be a published writer and for that, one really needs their own blog.

I don't think you should just publish for the heck of it, but some pressure to keep you chugging along isn't necessarily a bad thing, I don't think.

Woo, it looks like it worked! And you're so right about a little bit of pressure being a good thing. I think I need to just focus on writing in a certain spot instead of trying to spread myself too thin across the whole net. ;)

An option: using skyspun as a "landing page" with links to all your other things (LJ, Flickr, photography, FB, etc)

Ooh, actually I really like that idea. I didn't even think of that!! I think that's probably what I'll end up doing. I feel more apt to write here, and I think if I entirely trash skyspun.org, I'll lose certain people who might read my blog otherwise.
