OOC - Dream

The sky was tinged magenta in a way no sky should be. Dry wind disturbed her hair and skirt, and the feeling was gritty and unpleasant. The thing she felt the most was a strange sense of loneliness, like she was the only person left in the world. Tears flowed, dripping down into the pool of water below that was choked with parts of buildings, chunks of stone, and pieces of glass.

Then she noticed him.

He was just floating there, with the water around his body seemingly reflecting the dark pink of the sky above him, tingeing his white hair a soft pink. She couldn’t see his face, and even if she could, she wasn’t at all sure who he was. Looking down, she felt something in her snap, and waves of despair washed over her.

Another snap, and her eyes flew open. Her skin was slick with sweat and she felt her chest heave as she gasped for air.

“Hey, are you okay?” When she looked over at the speaker to smile and shake her head she could only see a single spot of bright green, nothing of his face. There were others around her, all blurs of color: dark hair with a smudge of a white hat, long dark hair and intense eyes, one with white hair. The clacking of wheels against metal sounded and a glance out the window told her that she was moving fast; the scenery flew by. She could feel the concern from the others when she looked back and quickly smiled again, brushing her hair away from her face.

“Really, I’m okay, honest. It was just a dream.” They mostly seemed satisfied with this, and turned back to whatever they’d been doing before, talking or reading or nothing at all. However, from the seat across from her she could feel the stare. The one with white hair. His eyes seemed like they were going to burn a hole in her; she looked up and it seemed as though one his eyes was glowing with a painful light. The more she looked, the more it burned and hurt, until finally she jumped up, startling the woman in the seat next to her. “I’m just going to get some air,” she explained hastily, scrambling over legs and bodies to the aisle and hustling to the train car’s door.

Outside, between the cars, she leaned against the railing and closed her eyes, letting the cold wind cool her skin and clear her mind. Something was wrong with her; panic hovered just below the surface of her thoughts, threatening to take her over from within. She breathed in and out until she felt calm again, until she felt weightless. It almost wasn’t surprising when she opened her eyes and found herself floating in darkness, but close to a bright light. This time the light felt warm and comforting, like someone was holding her tight.

Then she saw the angel.

It was bright red and luminous, like it was composed of liquid lava. Her mouth opened and the girl waited for her to speak, still feeling the strange calm. Neither one of them spoke. The girl reached out, and the angel mirrored her actions; their hands stretched towards each other like they were each reaching towards their own reflections. When their hands touched the warmth inside her chest grew and radiated throughout her body. Was the angel smiling? She seemed to bloom out and change, until she dissolved into thousands of butterflies flying through the blackness and towards the light. The girl watched them go, a hand to her hair against the rushing wind and a tightness in her chest.
