1. Round One was over clothes.
"Ugh, Shintaro, hurry up or else we'll be late!" Ryutaro shouted upstairs towards the bedroom. He turned his back on the stairs to tap his foot impatiently on the foyer floor. It was almost time for the Shounen Club dance rehearsal. However, the younger Morimoto brother had woken up late, in which resulted in less time for him to get ready.
"But it's nii-chan's fault for not waking me up!" Shintaro argued back as he hurried down the stairs.
Ryutaro rolled his eyes at his brother and turned around with a comeback on his lips. "It's not my fault you have a hard time waking--" but stopped short when he saw what Shintaro was wearing.
"Hey, is that my jacket?" Ryutaro accused, looking closely.
"Eh?" Shintaro stopped to look at the jacket he had on. Sure enough, Ryutaro's favorite blue stripped hoodie was zipped snugly around the younger boy's small frame. "Oh, Mama must have mixed up our clothes again. It was on the stack of clean laundry she put on my bed." He shrugged and walked past his brother to put on his shoes.
"But it's my jacket." Ryutaro moved to grab the boy's shoulders.
But Shintaro knew his older brother all too well and used his small stature as an advantage to swiftly dodge Ryutaro's hand.
"It looks better on me anyway!" Shintaro cheekily responded as he zoomed out of the Morimoto household.
"Oi! Come back here!" Ryutaro called after.
2. A sleepover collision caused Round Two.
"Thanks again for letting me stay over at your hosue, Ryutaro-kun!" Chinen exclaimed as they walked to the front door of Ryutaro's house. Even though the young acrobat's parents had planned a small vacation that weekend, they refused to leave until he found a place to stay and someone to look over him.
"I don't know why my parents won't let me stay hoem alone," Chinen thought out loud and hugged his pillow with Ohno's face on it close.
Maybe it's because they're afraid you'll go on complete Ohno stalker-mode and not leave the poor guy alone, Ryutaro thought in horror. But then turned to his fellow Hey! Say! JUMP member with a comforting smile and ssaid, "I'm not sure why either."
The youngest HSJ member opened the door to let them in, but was surprised by the scene that awaited him. Since the threshold was directly in front of the living room, Ryutaro had a good view of his younger brother and two of his friends/fellow Johnny's Juniors sitting on the living room floor and playing video games.
"Eh?! Shintaro!" Ryutaro shouted and stomped into the living room. Chinen sighed and felt another infamous Morimoto brothers' feud was about to take place. The younger boys immediately stopped their game to look up at their senpais.
Despite the apparent anger on Ryutaro's face, the younger Morimoto happily greeeted his brother with a "Hi Nii-chan!"
"Hi Ryutaro-kun, Chinen-kun!" Both Casey Anderson and Taiga Kyomoto greeted with smiles upon their cute faces.
"Why are you guys here?" Ryutaro grumpily asked.
"Well, since we have rehearsal early in the morning, Mama let them sleep over for the night." Shintaro cheerfully informed with a big smile.
"Eh? But Mom said that Chii-chan could sleep over!" Ryutaro groaned. It wasn't that he didn't like the two Johnny's Juniors sleeping over, but more at the fact that he wanted Chinen and him to be alone.
"Ah--Chinen-kun, you're sleeping over, too?" Taiga eagerly asked.
"Yup!" Chinen happily answered, but felt Ryutaro's anger increase witht he new information. He turned to the youngest JUMP member and said reassuringly, "It's ok, Ryutaro-kun! The more the merrier, right?" He flashed his famous smile and then skipped over to join the other three.
Ryutaro sighed, feeling his anger slowly disappear. He wondered why his negative feelings always seemed to vanish whenever Chinen smiled at him.
3. Taking a DS without perfmission caused Round Three.
"Thank you, Hey! Say! 7 for reading the Hesei mail with us! We can't wait until your song at the end of the show. Alright, next up is Question? singing their original song Parallel!" Koyama announced with a small bow to the younger faction of HSJ. It was the day to record another exciting episode of Shounen Club.
"Yes, thank you!" Hey! Say! 7 chorused back and then turned to go back stage.
Since their performance wasn't until the end of the show, the five members went off to pursue their passions for the time being. Ryosuke and Yuto reached for their mp3 players, sharing their headphones as they played their music. Keito went to a quiet area to call a certain goofy BEST member, while Chinen tried to practice the latest Arashi PV dance moves. Despite the fact that he already knew them by heart, he insisted on dancing in perfect sync with his beloved Ohno-sempai.
Seeing as that all of his fellow band mates were busy, Ryutaro decided to try to beat his current Super Mario score and went in search of his Nintendo DS. He found his bag amongst the many piled onto the table and opened the pocket where he kept his game deivce. However, Ryutaro reached in to find the pocket empty. He quickly looked inside the small space and frantically searched inside his bag, but to no avail.
Immediately, one very familiar face came to mind as to why it was missing. "Shitnaro!" He shouted and quickly ran out of the dressing room.
"Ah-choo!" Shintaro sneezed. He was in the Juniors' dressing room with Taiga, playing on his brother's Nintendo DS, but felt something was wrong after he sneezed.
"What's wrong, Shintaro-kun?" Taiga asked when his friend stopped playing.
"Uh-oh, I think my Nii-chan found out that I took his DS again," Shintaro replied, but then shrugged off his worries. He would just deal with it when he got home.
4. Round Four sparked jealousy.
It was just another day at the jimusho as Ryutaro walked into the HSJ dressing room. He felt happy that his day hadn’t started out with an argument with a certain younger family member. He was also pretty eager to see the smallest HSJ member, in hopes of seeing his sweet smile.
However, his bright mood immediately darkened when he saw who was in the room. Other than the rest of his fellow group members, there sitting on the couch next to his Chinen was the younger Morimoto boy. The two kids were in a passionate conversation; well, more that Chinen was the real passionate one talking about why he loves Ohno…for the nth time.
On impulse, Ryutaro took the farthest seat from the couch and sat there, glaring at the two from afar. He didn’t know why it bugged him when other people talked to Chinen or took up the young acrobat’s time, especially if it was his brother. All he knew was that he let the burning dislike of Shintaro settle in his chest and imagined ways of tearing the two apart. The longer the conversation went on between the two, the more agitated Ryutaro became.
It wasn’t long before Yabu’s motherly sense of atmosphere detected Ryutaro’s discomfort. He interrupted his conversation with Takaki to approach the youngest HSJ member.
“What’s wrong, Ryutaro-kun?” Yabu asked in a soft tone of voice.
“Nothing,” he replied and suddenly got out of his seat. Without even greeting his group mate, he snapped at his brother. “What are you doing here, Shintaro?”
The younger brother frowned at the elder boy’s sudden foul mood. Sometimes he wondered if his brother was born angry. “I’m just talking to Chinen-kun, Nii-chan. Why do you always have to be so mean?”
“I’m not mean,” Ryutaro retorted, “Don’t you have practice with the rest of the Juniors?”
“Yeah, but it’s not until a couple more minutes.”
“All the more reason for you to leave.”
“Ryutaro-kun!” Chinen chimed in, trying to be the neutral referee between the Morimoto brothers. He took Ryutaro’s hand reassuringly before saying, “You can join us if you want, Ryutaro-kun.”
Chinen’s sudden touch and dazzling smile sent butterflies fluttering in Ryutaro’s stomach. The content feeling also made him forgot why he was angry. “S-sure,” he replied and sat down on the couch in a daze.
5. A confession came out of Round Five.
Ryutaro was sitting on the couch and sighed out of frustration. He really didn’t like the scene taking place in front of him. His brother was hanging out in the HSJ dressing room and playing a game with Chinen again.
Gosh, where are Taiga and Casey when you need them? He thought to himself. The angry frown on his face warned the other members of HSJ to not approach with him, especially Hikaru, who was just about to pull a prank on him. Ryutaro had been watching the two play some hand game for the past fifteen minutes and every passing minute made him more annoyed. “Why are you always here, Shintaro?” the older Morimoto brother asked out loud.
Shintaro groaned, hearing his brother pick on him again. But before Shintaro could complain about his mean nii-chan, Ryutaro’s wishes came true as Taiga and Casey came into the dressing room.
“Hey, Shintaro! We have practice now,” Casey informed his fellow Johnny’s Junior.
“Yeah, c’mon!” Taiga called with a smile.
“Ok!” Shintaro said good-bye to Chinen and then skipped out of the room.
Ryutaro quickly took advantage of his brother’s absence to walk over to Chinen. He plopped down next to the older boy and crossed his arms, but refusing to say anything.
Chinen took notice of him and turned to greet him, “Hi Ryutaro-kun!” But then noticed the frown on his face. “Is there something wrong?”
“Nothing,” Ryutaro immediately replied and continued to frown. Silence fell between the two HSJ members for a few minutes, until, “So, why do you always hang out with my little brother?”
“What do you mean?” the young acrobat innocently asked.
“Well, every single time he’s here, you’re the one who’s playing with him,” Ryutaro accused. “What, do you like him or something?”
Chinen became annoyed by Ryutaro’s sudden instigation of a fight and snapped back, “He’s just your brother. Besides, he’s fun to be around. Why do you care?”
“I didn’t say that I cared. I was just asking if you like him,” he replied, but came out as a young boy trying to sound smart.
“Gosh, you’re so immature, Ryutaro-kun,” Chinen scoffed and rolled his eyes.
“I am not immature! I just want to know if you like Shintaro or not!”
By then, Chinen was more than annoyed and pretty angry. “Why do you even want to know?”
Ryutaro couldn’t take it anymore and blurted out without thinking, “Because I like you, that’s why!” His feelings overtook him as he grabbed Chinen’s hand and pulled him into a tight hug.
The younger boy’s sudden confession startled Chinen at first, but quickly returned the hug when he realized what he had just said. Chinen broke the hug to look at a now blushing Ryutaro.
“Do you really mean it?” he asked hopefully.
Ryutaro avoided eye contact, feeling embarrassed. “Y-yes. Uh… D-do you.. um, feel, the.. er, same way?”
Chinen flashed his 1000-wat smile directly at Ryutaro before saying, “Of course! I like Ryutaro the best!” He giggled and swiftly leaned in give him a gentle kiss.
At first, Ryutaro was overjoyed that he forgot to close his eyes. He blinked once and then felt himself melt under Chinen’s lips and happily kissed him back. It seemed that they were so caught up in their own world that they didn’t notice the camera phones around them.
