But I don't think I agree with you on how air travel has been. In the past five years I've flown a bit around Europe, the U.S., and to Japan. I've stood up and walked a bit, stretched my legs. I've grabbed a bottle of water at the shops after security and brought it on the plane. They let us use electronic devices once we reach cruising altitude, but I'm not sure if it's instrumentation or electronics that have changed in the past twenty years, and I remember flying as a teenager (so... at least twelve years ago) and that still being the case because I ignored them and got yelled at. I also accidentally left a BIG FAT KNIFE in one of my carry on bags say five years ago and they never even caught it.
I don't think we're any safer than we ever were, but airports and planes are definitely nastier and more stressful.
