I do not have the software on my laptop to open the rar file. Please clarify: (1) are we limited to using the images you posted ONLY, or (2) can we use any image from a Van Gogh painting? I apologize if my question sounds simplistic. This is my first attempt at any art work icons on LJ. Please bear with me. mae

It's option #1: You can make up to five icons using only the provided images.
Downloading the rar file is not a necessity; it's perfectly fine to use the images that are directly from the Web site. It's just that I had initially posted the images at whatever sizes they were when I had downloaded them, but they were SO huge. I ended up shrinking some images to make them more dial-up-friendly. The compressed file is for people who want copies of the images at their original sizes.
There are programs that you can download for free that would open rar files; for instance, there's a free trial version of WinRAR: http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10007677.html However, I've just added a zip file version; let me know if it works.
No need to apologize! :) Some other people may have shared the same thoughts; also, thanks to you, I posted two types of files. ;-)
