But we'll have to pay dole money for the aforementioned millions, as well as most likely needing to cover the medical expenses of their anxiety-induced conditions, depression and crime.
What with the axe about to be taken to the public sector, I see no reason that unemployment would fall any time soon...
It's also perfectly possible that widespread immigration would cause the population's average age to decrease, much like it caused the Catholic Church to outgrow the Anglican one. However this argument that we need immigration (which I'm not in favour of restricting, but think we should be selective in the arguments for) to somehow rebalance our age demographics is nonsense: there are loads of young people devoid of jobs as it is.
If we need a lot more people paying taxes, the simplest way to go about it is to give those existing unemployed people jobs.
because there is too little money coming in to support an aging population. Basically, people have to work longer to support themselves, and pay more taxes
We do need a lot of taxes, that I know, but atm there aren't enough jobs to go around. So why are we better off with those being extracted from a 66+ year old than them retiring and the job going to an otherwise unemployed sub-65 year old?
well because anyone who hasn't got a job is either a lazy layabout or a labour government victim, natch. The former will be forced to work, the latter solved with the magic wand the new government wields

Also, unemployment should fall again, the average age of the population won't.

My Dad is 60 this year and all he wants is to be working, an age is doing nothing to him (seriously he can wrestle me to the ground)
