I'm scared...

I only started dealing with it today, as I am trying to get my new bluetooth dongle working with my laptop so I can use the data services on my phone with my computer. But I just realized I have memorized my MAC address of my phone's BT adapter... Someone help me....

Oh dear... but yeah, bluez can be a royal pain in the arse at times..

Took me heaps of fiddling to get my Nokia N70 playing happy with my desktop with Gnubox.

I f***ing hate bluez! In their infinite wisdom, they decided to remove the passkey agent from 4.x. So now you have to use a broken python script they have or the old psaskey agent, which doesn't work with 4.x. I think I'm going to have to downgrade to 3.x this afternoon.

Yeah.. basically it seems they've only really developed DBus passkey agents for Bluez/DBUS for Gnome and I think KDE.. Ie. No commandline passkey agent.

There are ways around it, however..

"If you are stuck in console and absolutely need to pair with your bluetooth
device have a look at /var/lib/bluetooth//pincodes.
Please note that this mode of operation is _not_ _supported_.
The format is (one per line):

Don't mess with files in /var/lib/bluetooth/ unless you know what you are
doing.
I repeat: manually adding a pincode for a remote device is NOT SUPPORTED."

Alternatively I believe you can tweak /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf
.. set security to "auto"
.. set a passkey here

oh, if bluez 4.x had an hcid.conf, I'd be all set! But they got rid of it in 4.x and there is now no way to set a passkey internally into bluez.
