Aching for arguments and debates

Here's my problem with belief in god…the idea of god was created in a time of ignorance when man did not know why the sun came and left each day, had no idea what the deal with lightning was, thought that fertility statues would help women conceive, and didn't know anything about their life outside of their own little village and obviously the ( Read more... )

people use "god" and religion to explain what they don't understand. they need to feel as if somehow their life is significant. If you've ever noticed, nearly every single religious person doesn't strictly follow the religion they subscribe to. they pick and choose which aspects to follow or not follow in order to suit their particular needs. your own personal god. how comforting.

oh yes, i know all about the picking what you want to follow and begging for forgiveness when you totally ignore the other "rules" or whatever. it's like they think their god is a sucker and they can do as they please as long as they repent. check out my myspace blog, there's more action there

Any way you cut it it's conjecture and bullshit. No one knows what happens when you croak no one knows regardless of what they believe if there is a god or not. So basically what I'm getting at is everyone is perfectly entitled to their own opinions no matter how far fetched they may be, as long as they don't use their beliefs in a manor that is damaging to the people and world around them thats fine by me. Personaly I don't care if there is or isn't, all I care about is my short span of life and the people that matter to me.

i just have an argumentative nature and i really don't understand the leap of faith that those who believe make. i also don't like the animosity and distrust towards atheists from religious followers, which is why i'll continue to argue about these things (especially when people attempt to scientifically prove god exists through their ignorance of science) not only to maybe change some minds, but to relieve the stigma on myself and others

and well i have spent the last few years of my life kind of contemplating the real truth between weather there really is a god or not. As soon as i got a brain i realized that i was pretty much brainwashed, i need to start thinking for myself. I will always still cling on to my Christian beliefs and values though. Because i think that to a certain degree, at least the christian religion is needed in people. I know that if i wasnt raised under those beliefs, i would have turned out a LOT worse. I figure, there is no harm believing in something that teaches nothing but kindness and forgiveness, as opposed to blowing each other up and hate for any other culture.
