Star Trek

I'm probably the last one to see it, but my thoughts anyway:
  • Pseudoscience FTW!
  • Quinto and Cho are both pretty fantastic.
  • Despite their claims to the contrary, it's a reboot.
  • The action and special effects were excellent.
  • J.J. Abrams' touch is quite evident.
  • Where were the Klingons?
  • Parts of it felt very "Wars" instead of "Trek ( Read more... )

I think it helped me not to be a Trekkie/Trekker. I think the smattering of TOS episodes I've watched (and the movies) meant that I had character essences I could identify but not demand be rigidly represented. That's just my opinion.

Who denied this was a reboot? I thought that that was exactly what they were going for.

Oh, and the Klingons were still in their part of space being beaten up by Nero (there was some line about a shit-ton of warbirds being destroyed by his ship).

JJ Abrams denies this is a reboot.

I know the Klingons were off getting beaten up. I want to know why they weren't in the movie explicitly. It's Star Trek! There should be Klingons, to the exclusion of Romulans if need be.

Wasn't the term "Klingon Fleet" used when they said Nero traveled through their space? If so, then I think the Klingons ran out of ships to send into Federation space. Either that or all of the remaining ships were on their way into Romulan space to go kick some major @$$!

I'm not wondering why they didn't show up given the plot. I'm wondering why the plot wasn't written to include them.

I haven't seen it yet. And probably won't get a chance to for like, a week.

Yes, it's a reboot, but it's a reboot that respects established continuity. And as for the Wars vibe, see my LJ post about the movie.
