timeline. after chuck comes back from his impromptu absence.
To say he still wasn't annoyed wouldn't be the truth. He was. Dean had the capability of carrying around anger for years until it festered and boiled through his soul making him one of the most unmanagable people on the planet to deal with. But at the same time it was truly the only thing that kept him going for so long. That anger and emptiness. To say that he was a kind, empathic leader would be a lie. Dean was flawed in many ways, at numerous times it only took a little to break down everything that he worked for. But he tried. He tried a lot to do what he could in the name of the people who relied on him day in and day out to keep a good head on his shoulders. He didn't lie when he said his word was law. It was. Everything was life or death around here that the weight just...got to him most of the time. Even when he tried not too.
The hunter didn't really think it was right. What he was doing to Cas. He didn't think he should do what he had done but Castiel was burying himself underneath something that was used as a dangerous coping mechanism. As much as he wanted to give Cas that peace of mind, he didn't want to lose him to it. Something he should have been more proactive about from the beginning as he sauntered up the stairs to Cas's cabin, carrying a half-empty bottle of Jack as he pushed aside the beads and stepped inside the room. "Cas?"
