A good movie, set during the 1900s in America that involves Americans?

How about Forrest Gump? That pretty much covers every historical event from the 1950s on... and it's a good movie.

That it does, he does somehow manage to be at every major event in the last half of the century. My mom just loves that movie, but I've only seen it once. I think we actually own it so I may have to view it again. Thanks for the suggestion.
