There is something screwy happening on LiveJournal

There is something screwy happening on LiveJournal.  Tuesday someone left a comment on one of my public posts that did not make sense in the context of the post.  So I went to the commenter’s LJ account to see who they were.  I found an account that was new, with no entries, no friends, no interests, and about 70 comments.  It was odd but not a ( Read more... )

Thanks for telling me about this. The comments I talk about in my entry are thousands and thousands each. I think that they have to be generated by a computer program because there are too many and they happen too fast for days at a time without pause. Like the number I quote at the beginning of 3200 was up over 8700 by the next morning.

Don't know if this is related but I've been seeing a video pop up on shanks_daily: http://community.livejournal.com/shanks_daily/292686.html and gate_pages here: http://community.livejournal.com/gate_pages/69170.html under two different accounts. I have no idea how to do those searches though, so they're the only ones I am aware off.

The second video is gone but the first on I reported as adult since it went to and adult website. I suggest you also report it as adult if you haven't already. Just follow you link and one of the buttons above it is for reporting adult content.

All the instances I was talking about were only in the comment section, none of them were entries.

Doing searches on vids is difficult because the searches only cover the words in the description not the content of the actual vid.

Looks like it. My sweet pure innocent brain can NOT be exposed to such adult material.

No no no... fanfiction doesn't count because that is all for fun.

I got one of those on my geonn_ncis journal, but I already deleted it all so I don't have the information of who it was/what it said. But yeah, basically the same nonsense (the gibberish at the end shows up in the emailed comment, but not on the actual journal comment).

Thanks for keeping on top of this and letting TPTB know about it!

Well if it what I think it is, it's someone running a program that uses up LJ bandwidth and resources until it crashes the portal/website.

I think that, by design, the comments are being spread out so that none of them bother any one person enough that they investigate further. The person, like you, goes, that's odd, and just deletes/ignores it.

I guess that since I am a week or so behind in reading my friend feed that I am reading entries that are not brand new with no comments. It jumped out at me that I kept seeing the same comment over and over especially since the comments did not mesh with the subject matter of the post.

I think that also, by design, the comments are not rude or obscene so they are not getting flagged and brought to the attention of TPTB.

See Geonn, you were correct, I can write. But my muse make me write technical stuff that no one want to read.

Can you give me the link to the entry it was posted on?

Just out of curiosity, you aren't on my friend list and I know the entry is set to public, so how did you find this entry?

Is this the link http://strgazr04.livejournal.com/15775.html to the comment in question? If not send me that link.

I found the exact same comment as the one in yours from a different LJ user at: http://sway.livejournal.com/2448.html?thread=24720#t24720

I will keep investigating...

It's a spambot.

It's been leaving comments all over the place - lots with links to spyware/virus sites - report it as spam & delete it.

I understand that it is a spambot. What I am trying to do is trace it back to the source. What is weird is that there are no links in any of the comments. If you see one can you post the link here and let me look at it before you delete it.
