Remember Manzanar!

The unlawful detainment of known and obvious innocents is one of the first major proofs of a tyranny and the US is guilty as charged, again, and again! Amerika is NOT the land of the free! freedom at the convenience of the government is NOT freedom. It is not just the fact that Guantanamo exists, it is the fact that it can exist without major ( Read more... )

These are very strong words, and I don't entirely disagree... but I do want to ask what exactly you think can or should be done about it. It's one thing to say it, but another thing entirely to fix it.

For example, I do not protest the actions of my government. Not one of them. It would consume a number of my resources, endanger my personal freedom and safety (not just by government action, either), and frankly, I don't think it'd do a damn bit of good. The government isn't just rogue, it's broken. Even if someone wanted to change it, and there's no earthly reason why anyone in power should want to have less of it, they'd have a difficult time doing so from within the system... especially if those changes require everyone to cooperate about giving up power.

So again I ask... what exactly should the American people do about this?

If you think about it, that's a fairly damning statement right there. That said, people should at least admit it and stop spreading the "land of the free and home of the brave" propaganda, which is so clearly false ( ... )

I'm fine with my current approach, which is to follow any laws that aren't too big a pain, and ignore the rest as though they didn't exist (with the knowledge and acceptance that there may be unpleasant consequences to doing so).

For example, speed limits are a massive clusterfuck of laws taking precedence over safety. I ignore them, and drive safely instead. If I get caught going 86 miles an hour and am given a ticket, I pay it. I cannot get the law revoked, I might as well be prepared to interact with it as needed.

Henry Thereaux. Good for you! Civil Disobedience is a decent start;)

They called us scoff-laws, in California. ;)

Most of the Western World is going through a severe bout of fascism right now. Mostly, it stems from fear. We ave to resist that because rights that one loses will only be regained in blood.
