What's even more worrisome is that some people think this country is a theocracy or an oligarchy. The majority of them are Republicans.
Let's face it: education has been crammed down the toilet like nerds into lockers for the past thirty years. When you and I were young, our parents strove to have us better educated than they were. They wanted us to do better than they did. That was the societal expectation. Not so anymore. When one stupid state (Texas) can dictate the contents of textbooks for all other states, there is something wrong. When other stupid states (Kansas) dictate that Creationism be given equal didactic merit as Evolution, there is something wrong. When educated people are reviled as being "elites" and idiocy is praised, there is something wrong. When parents deride their children's educational aspirations as being uppity, there is something wrong. The source of that wrongness is the anti-education, anti-intellectualism of the Republican Party.
Quite a long time ago the Republican party turned into a theocratic oligarchy*.
The actions of the Republican party over the last few decades indicate that they care nothing for the Republic, instead preferring to push their theocracy - something specifically prohibited by the US constitution!
Unfortunately they didn't put all the rubbish into the TEA party and throw it out, as even now they're still trying to pander to them!
Yet many people who describe themselves as constitutional moderates still continue to support the Republican party and attack the Democrat party

Democrats and republics are different parts of the same side of the same coin. It's sickening. The Experiment has failed.
