1. CVS is currently displaying Halloween items... and also Christmas ornaments. What is happening why is happening2. However, they also have at least three cards specifically for same-sex weddings, which is new since I last looked. So that made me happy. Maybe they finally figured out they needed them when gay marriage became Officially Legal ( Read more... )

I don't know of any language with a gendered "I". Now I too am curious. There are also third-party anniversary cards but most of them are to "a wonderful couple" or some variation thereof. The big exception seems to be cards from the in-laws, but of course I'm basing that assessment on being one partner in a hetero marriage who gets a son-and-daughter-in-law card from my in-laws every year.

It has just occurred to me that we have known each other online for well over ten years, live within an hour of each other, and have never met in person. We need to rectify that sometime. Maybe when you're on your way to the Cape.

We should rectify that! Unfortunately my family only goes down the Cape in the summer, although usually there's one "winter social" in the middle of the winter, but if you're ever in the Boston area let me know, and I'll let you know when next we head down the Cape!

Someone in the thread below misunderstood my point about gendered I and it's kind of hilarious because I really just have never heard of a language that has female I and male I, but apparently pointing that out makes me an SJW bully.

A few weeks ago I noticed christmas candles in a local candle shop, and I was going to boggle about when I went into the Hospice to volunteer, but then I noticed they had Christmas cards out too. Apparently it's a competition thing - as soon as one shop starts putting christmas stuff out, the rest have to to try to compete for the customers who prepare early. It's terrible. We're going to end up having to start getting ready for it in March.

I know, right?! This is ridiculous! It's too early for Halloween, let alone Christmas!

We used to live down the street from the Faily Dollar -- technically the Family Dollar, but the M on the sign was blown out, and the name Faily Dollar suited them very very well -- and for literally half the year their big display window was filled with an indiscriminate hodgepodge of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas crap. Then when Christmas had been over for awhile they'd change the display and fill it with an indiscriminate hodgepodge of spring/summer crap. I really liked how, in the Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas display, the centerpiece was a little Christmas tree under which someone had tossed a baby doll still in the box, presumably to represent the baby Jesus, but they had just thrown it any which way so it was lying askew, kind of balanced on one corner as it rested against the tree, and watched over by skeletons draped in black cobwebs. It really put you in the holiday spirit.

Man I am glad that someone else found the "Freezing" thing funny because I was full of eyerolls and subdued giggles when I saw it in the store but I didn't think anyone else would care.

If your friend's son is looking for a transcription job I believe my company is hiring, but I'm sorry, I've forgotten the exact details of what kind of job your friend's son is looking for. What are the details again?

Well, ATC's seeking-jobs webpage is here: http://www.audiotranscriptioncenter.com/transcriptionjobs.html and I think it has all the information he'd need. There's a link to the online application there.

All Christmas, all the time.

Apparently the trains can't get it together even when it's a normal temp - the Fitchburg line is currently delayed and my coworker is glad she decided to take the early train as she's actually here and not stuck on a train! The MBTA is ridiculous.

Yeah, I am really displeased with the T these days. The scary part is the Commuter Rail is far and away the best service the T runs (probably because I don't even think the T technically runs it.)

That's terrifying considering how bad the commuter rail is!!
