Well, it’s October 1st, and I’m tentatively back on other social media. But I’m still not sure I like the role Facebook and Twitter play in my life, so I’m posting these could-have-been status updates here, not there, even as their content is informed by things I came across on Facebook and Twitter. Hmm ( Read more... )

I forgot about Julie Andrews too until I read this! I immediately texted my sister too! (who didn't respond because she's in Belfast with my other sister. Whatever. I'm not jealous.)

I enjoyed reading #4, I had something to add to it but I'm kind of foggy right now.

I've become one of those annoying people who replies to every single one of a person's posts.

Sorry.

NO NO NO I'M SO HAPPY YOU COMMENT ON EVERYTHING! Comment away! I like your comments! I mean, look, YOU ALSO CARE THAT IT'S JULIE ANDREWS' BIRTHDAY!

(seriously though I'm so glad she's not dead) (this is what happens when you fangirl 80-year-olds)

(also selecting an icon here reminds me that I have SO MANY Julie icons)

On a non-Julie-related matter, did one of your sisters move overseas? I feel like I got confused about this somewhere along the line.

*snort* Right?! Seems like every time I see a headline with one of my favorite actors' names in the past few years, I have that split-second of arrested heartbeat, hoping it's not announcing their death.

YOU REPLIED TO A JULIE ICON WITH A CAROL ICON. OMFG.

(Sorry. I bet you don't know about my Julie/Carol thing. Anyway Carol is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES as well.)

Aww, thank you! <3 LJ suits my style of writing/thinking much better than Facebook ever did, I am finding. As is evidenced by the fact that I thought each bullet point was going to be about the length of a status update, and then I went on about the Pope for like 500 words. I had considered posting to FB about the Pope but it would go to Read More after like two sentences and then nobody would read the rest.

I remember when the movie The Sound of Music came out and being taken to see it.

The Pope is Roman Catholic after all and the head of the Roman Catholic Church. We only have Kim Davis' words on what conversation they had together. Why a Pentecostal would request a meeting with a Roman Catholic Pope is beyond me. [My guess continues to be that she wants to get on the speaking circuit as is her decision. I won't be in the audience]. Pentecostals historically have considered Roman Catholics to be among the unsaved. Nowadays that has softened to a reluctant admission that some few of them can have gotten saved due to the Charismatic movement of the 1970s.
If Kim Davis and the Pope met and had sex or a cup of tea-- meh.

I've read enough of the (at) Pontifex account on Twitter to know that the Pope is a Pope is a Pope and not a can of tomato paste after all.

Good idea about social media! I had actually deleted fb a few years back (so I was down to just LJ and occasionally tumblr) but then I moved to Korea so I re-enabled facebook. I think they all serve different purposes, and it sounds like you're aware of where you want your limits to be, so that's great. I try to make a "no internet/phone after __pm" whenever I find myself getting to obsessed.
