Our fiance petition was approved on May 27. Woot!! It has since gone from USCIS in VT to the National Visa Center in NH, and been forwarded to the embassy in Dublin. If you just want to get married you don't have to do anything. Come over, get married, go back to Ireland, like any other normal trip. The fiance visa process is so John can enter, and be allowed to stay and "adjust status" to a legal permanent resident afterward. Just be prepared that if you mention plans to get married at the border, they might want to see evidence of your ties to Ireland to convince them that you don't intend to stay indefinitely afterward. Probably just simpler to say you're visiting friends and family, and leave it at that.
If you want to move to the US after that you can file for a spousal visa from within Ireland and it's much faster.
