Key
+ + | Youji doesn't just like you, he might actually love you. So far, the only person to truly achieve this rating is his canon love interest, Asuka Murase.
+ | Youji, for some reason, likes you. He enjoys your company and finds you interesting to talk to.
+ + / - | Youji is largely indifferent towards, but still inclined to think favorably of you. He'll talk to you and not consider it a waste of time.
+ / - | Youji is largely indifferent towards you. This is not a negative rating; this is his default view of damn near everything.
+ / - - | Youji is largely indifferent towards, but still inclined to think ill of you. He'll talk to you if you ping his interest, or you talk to him first.
- | Youji, for some reason, dislikes you. He will tolerate you out of politeness or usefulness, but not much beyond that.
- - | Youji doesn't just dislike you, he honestly hates you. :/ Getting this rating will take a certain amount of effort, as Youji is generally a pretty easygoing guy. About the only way to end up here is to show yourself as a misogynist jerkass who hurts women. Or join Schwarz.
Sample
Youji Kudou |
slantedcrossRating: [ - ]
Comments: Youji's not quite into self-hate, but he's close. He sees himself as a coward and a failure in pretty much everything he's tried.
Canonmates
In order of meeting:
Aya Fujimiya (Ran) |
redabyssinianRating: [ + + / - ]
Comments: Aya is not Youji's favorite person at the moment, but they've known each other long enough that tension and lack of trust hasn't obliterated their working relationship. Yet.
Youji does consider Aya a friend, albeit a strained one. Their personal relationship maintains a tense civility that only gives way to their former trust as teammates when they have a common goal. Most recently, it was concern for Omi's disappearance, Ken's recklessness, and their shared mistrust of Naoya and Loki. In spite of his own propensity towards self-sabotage, Youji does want to rise above Aya's lack of trust i him--the only problem is, he knows exactly how well-placed it is, and is dead-set against proving Aya right... again.
Aya Fujimiya (Aya-chan) |
stillneedsakissRating: [ + ]
Comments: Aya's darling sister. Youji once allowed her kidnappers to escape with her while she was in a coma, so he'd feel like he owed her a lifetime of servitude even if she was a shrewish bitch. Fortunately, however, Youji finds her refreshingly cheerful, charmingly energetic, and delightfully mischievous. She used him as the punchline in a bondage joke. In front of her brother. Of course he adores her.
Youji's personality lends itself well to co-conspiracy, and, on some level, he recognizes Aya-chan as a kindred spirit in this regard. She's still the major exception to his "18-and-up-only" rule, in that she is age 19 and Youji can't bring himself to think of her as anything other than a younger sister. Part of this is his prior history with her, but another part of it is her consummate girlishness. She has confided to him her desire of being seen as a woman, and he's doing his best to guide her towards the realization that there's more to being grown-up than just getting older, while simultaneously guarding her from any rash decisions such a desire might provoke. Not that she's shown any such inclinations, but it's always good to watch.
Other than that, Aya-chan is proving a potent deterrent to Youji's customary self-destructiveness; her good opinion is important to him, and he abhors both the thought of losing it and of disappointing her in the process. While he's disobeying the letter of her and her brother's banning him from alcohol, he's kept to the spirit and cut down considerably.
Ken Hidaka |
1thingincommonRating: [ + ]
Comments: Ken arrived after Sena, but Youji spoke to him first. Ken is three years younger than Youji thinks he should be, and they're still getting used to that. The plus side is that Ken is so far back in the past that he has no idea how things go wrong, and still treats Youji like he's normal. Youji values that, and feels much more comfortable with Ken than he does with Aya, Omi, or Sena.
Omi Tsukiyono (Mamoru Takatori) |
takatori_heirRating: [ + ] ( [ + / - - ] )
Comments: Youji is fond of Omi, considering him a friend and an intellectual superior. He also likes to tease him, but is holding back because Omi is in a tricky place in time: not as clueless as Ken as to Youji's problems, but not as well-versed in them as Aya, either.
(Youji has no real opinion of Mamoru, but is inclined to dislike him on principle of the fact that he chose the cutthroat Takatori family over Weiss. That, and Mamoru is his boss.)
Sena Izumi (Takeru Kisaragi) |
carrying_hopeRating: [ + + / - ]
Comments: Youji and Sena do not interact on-screen. Off-screen, Sena was in Youji's art class. Or so we decided. In Somarium, Youji mostly avoided Sena until Omi woke up. When they do talk to each other, they tend to be snarky and irreverent. Youji is also aware that Sena is dead.
Somarium Residents
After two interactions (or one really memorable one), I'll make an entry here.
Alice Liddell |
madcuriosityRating: [ + ]
Comments: Seven-year-old Alice is not someone Youji would have chosen to make friends with, but she responded to his failed attempt to find a pretty girl to talk to, and he couldn't bring himself to brush her off. Her purity and sweetness bring out his inner Knight in Shining Armor, and she makes him feel like one of the good guys, for once. Youji's missed that feeling.
Iris |
thenicer_oneRating: [ + + / - ]
Comments: Iris is another one who responded to Youji's fail!post, and one of the few who made the effort worth it. She's plainly sweet, and like with Alice, Youji appreciates the chance to experience that. She's another one who brings out the chivalry in him; Iris is the sort of girl you can't help but hold the door for. Had things gone as planned (and in Youji's life, they never do), she would have won him at the White Day auction. Youji, appreciating her kindness in offering to 'save' him and somewhat bitter at being thwarted, is eager to make amends in any way he's able.
Naoya |
un_forgettingRating: [ + / - - ]
Comments: Youji was suspicious of Naoya when he polled the residents of Somarium about magic in their own world. This suspicion grew when Youji saw the accidental video post of Naoya cracking under the pressure of the endless week of flashback nightmares, and confronted him for information. It remains suspicion for now, since Naoya's not done anything overtly evil and hasn't balked when Youji goes to him for information. However, Youji's confided his suspicions to three of his teammates, and they've mostly agreed. The fourth, mind, currently refers to Naoya as "Uncle Na-chan..." This is going to be fun.
Mille Feuille |
prettyhazknightRating: [ + / - ]
Comments: Mille pwned Youji the first time they spoke, and after taking a minute to get over the shock, embarrassment, and irritation, Youji found the whole thing amusing. He finds Mille fun to talk to, and somewhat enigmatic; Mille's age alone intrigues him.
Kyon |
snark_pantsRating: [ + / - ]
Comments: Kyon was the only one to figure out the filter failure that made the fail!post a fail!post. Youji both respected and resented that, and took revenge by harassing Kyon when he genderswitched. Youji doesn't usually go for high school girls, but he's got no shame, anyway. Kyon's another entry on the list of people Youji just likes to talk to for the sake of it; he appreciates that Kyon gives as good as he's given in the verbal arena.
Itoshiki Nozomu |
despairteacherRating: [ + / - ]
Comments: The guy who couldn't commit suicide; didn't take well to Youji's suggestion that being killed might work better. He responded to Youji's "Who's still alive?" post with a request for funeral arrangements and believes he can commit suicide by attempting to fail at it. Interestingly enough, he's also a teacher; Youji thinks he's strange, but he's certainly never dull to talk to.
Simon Lewis |
dungeongeekRating: [ + / - ]
Comments: A geeky kid, but a pleasant one. Youji was amused by his awkward attempt to get a band going, and ended up trying to give Simon advice on how to get women. He reminds Youji of some of his teammates, and what they might have been like if they were normal people.
Magnus Bane |
highwarlockmbRating: [ + / - ]
Comments: Claims to be able to use magic. Youji's got a knack for poor life decisions, and decided to trust him to heal his leg. He seems cocky and a bit odd, but nothing really negative has jumped out.
Loki |
ragnalolRating: [ + / - - ]
Comments: An associate of Naoya's and, Youji suspects, the actual Loki. He came to Youji's attention after he beat the hell out of and facilitated Ken's transformation into a girl. He's also obnoxious and is giving Youji a taste of his own medicine by hitting on him. Fun times. He's dangerous and Youji is incredibly suspicious of him. Which means that he wants to arrange for them to be in the same room to enable better observation. Youji is an idiot, okay.
