make up stuffs for talya

decided to make a post since talya and i didn't actually get to talk about it :P

it's basically how to do your eyeshadow the way i had it last night:

1. Gather your materials: foundation, a black eyeshadow, ice blue eyeshadow, reddish purple eyeshadow, highlight colour (any light neutral colour) and one brush for each colour (if you only have one brush you can probably use cotton buds instead and save your brush to blend with)

2. If you want your eye shadow to stay put all night and not crease too much - apply foundation (or primer, but i don't have any) to your eyelids (and a small strip along the bottom lid next to the lashes as well) now.

3. Top lid first: apply black eyeshadow from lateral canthus of eyelid (outer corner) across the lid to the medial canthus (inner corner) with brush 1. Go NO HIGHER than the crease of your eyelid, and if you can't get all the way into the inner corner, don't worry too much. you'll want this part to be lighter anyhow.

4. Then, with brush 2, take the ice blue shadow and starting from the inner corner, apply it over the top of the black shadow across to the centre of the lid. If you go a bit over again don't worry about it - you'll be blending it out anyway. At the moment, just get the colour on and don't worry too much about blending. The ice blue should now have turned a bit darker looking given the black shadow underneath it.

5. With brush 3, take your red-purple eyeshadow and start from the outer corner and bring it in to meet the blue section. Don't go over the blue entirely, but blend them together in the centre. If you leave it like this, making sure you haven't gone over the crease with any of your shadows, you could probably wear this look in the day, despite it being quite a strong/dark look.

6. For night-time! Take the red-purple again (same brush) and now bring the colour up from the outer corner and push it ALONG the crease (easiest to tell where that is if you just half close your eyes and push the brush into your socket. Don't push too hard) towards the inner corner, but don't go all the way. Doing it this way, some colour will appear above the crease, as well as blending the colours below together. Because the red-purple is not on top of black shadow, it will also be lighter and less intense, which enables you to blend what's on your lid out into what's just below your eyebrow (ie, normal skin colour), without having harsh lines.

7. Now you have dark blue and dark purple on your lid and it's all quite dark. To lighten it up a bit more, take the ice blue colour again with brush 2 and PACK IT ON in the inner corner. Once you look all bright eyed again, blend outwards a little to prevent a harsh line between ice blue and dark blue.

8. Top lid done! To do the bottom lid, take black eyeshadow and bring it around from the outer corner just HALFWAY along the lid.

9. Take red-purple eyeshadow, and bring it around from the outer corner, OVER the black eyeshadow and then all the way to the inner corner.

10. At this point, my lower lid just looked too dark, so I put some ice blue shadow on the outer corner and brought it in over where I had put the black stuff.

11. Now that your bottom lid is done, final step is to highlight. Take your highlighter shadow with a fourth brush and brush it on under your brow bone, blending out the red-purple above the crease (again to prevent the harsh line). You can bring the highlight shade across to the inner corner as well, but don't go right over the top of the ice blue. You can see in my pictures, the light sparkly stuff comes right in next to my nose and down, medial to the blue. Put a little highlight on the inner corner of the lower lid too.

And now you're done! You'll note i didn't even bother to line my eyes or put on mascara or anything. That's because my lids below the crease are quite small and you wouldn't see any colour if i just put liner right over the top. Also, my lashes are quite dark anyway. Your eyes might be able to take liner, and might even need liner if your lashes are light.

There are some other things you ought to know about this look.
1. I've only done it this once, with the colours I had. You might be able to skip the black shadow entirely if you have dark enough blues/purples.
2. Bottom lid might be better off just using purple and blue without the black in the first place, but again, this was the first time I'd done my eyeshadow like this so I had to jobby up my initial mistake (putting on the black) by putting the blue over the top.
3. The black shadow is just to deepen the colours. If you want to wear this in the day you could probably do the same application except skip the black shadow.
4. I picked purple and blue, but you can do ANY two colours you like, just keep the lighter colour for the inner corner. (Well, you don't HAVE to, but it usually looks a LOT better if the light colour is on the inner corner).
5. Make sure you do BOTH eyes at EACH step. Guaranteed, if you do one eye in its entirety first, you won't be able to get the other eye to look the same!
6. It's important to use separate brushes!!! Black tends to overpower other colours, so if you put on black first then try to put on other colours with the same brush, it will just come out a mess. If you use the same brush for blue and purple it might work, or you might end up not getting the actual VARIATION from blue to purple happening. If you don't have a separate brush for the highlighter, well, you'll just end up smearing blue and purple over your entire eye area. Again, if you don't have brushes (plural), use cotton buds to get the colour on and then just blend the blendy bits with a clean brush. If you don't have ONE brush, you can still just use a separate cotton bud to blend, but they don't work so well.
6. I get all my inspiration from watching lots of youtube videos, in particular, videos by panacea81 aka Lauren Luke.
