Browsing through assorted LJs, I just had this wrenching revelation that I still desperately want to do Peace Corp, and there's no earthly way...not without abandoning everything in my life here.

Hey, maybe you wouldn't have to. Maybe you could do Peace Corps right here. I mean, judging by some of our clinic clientele i'd say parts of Oklahoma are pretty "third-world"....and some of them could definitely do with English lessons. *evil grin* Wuv 'oo Jess.

Well, you're right on both accounts there. This state, like many others, is in bad shape, and could do well with some helping hands to patch things up. Even so, an endeavor such as that would take years, if not decades, to see some real progress.
Don't choices suck? Sometimes it is hard to see what precipated the actions that have placed us where we are, which is almost always different from where we expected to be. Once we're there, can we go anywhere else? Do we really want to? I myself would still love to do a solo hike around the world, or go deep into the northern wilderness and live as part of the land for several years. A thing to remember - there is much we can do later in life after these current obligations have passed.
