Final Session, Week One Challenge
Title: Too Heavy
Author: xoe
Pairing: Remus/Ron
Rating: ?
Word Count: 318
Scenario: At night, Ron believes he can see Harry again (yes, thus meaning, Harry is dead), and Remus believes him.
A/N: This isn't exactly slashy... it's pretty clean actually. I don't like it too much, but I gave it a shot.

When the school asked to remove Harry's trunk from the dorm, Ron found it hard to tell Dumbledore where it was. Now watching Lupin & Hagrid lopsidedly carry down the robes, the slightly worn school books, the broom-- his broom-- it was almost as if he had been thrust into a future that he rather would not have seen.

"This is too heavy." Hagrid slumped onto one of the four-poster beds, causing the mattress to sag down onto the floor. "I can't carry that anymore," he said, pointing to the now abandoned trunk. He left, leaving puddle-sized tears in his wake.

"I hope they don't ding it up. That trunk was pretty expensive."

Ron, startled by hearing a voice so much like Harry's, jumped. When he turned around, he saw-- no, he thought he saw-- Harry, smiling down at him.

"I should carry it down myself."

When he looked over at Lupin, standing there with the trunk that might as well have been Harry's coffin, he remembered the expression on his face when Sirrius had died. He knows what it's like to lose everything in one person's eyes.

"L-L-L-upin... Are you--? Do you see--?"

"Do you want to help me take this down?" It was funny how his lupine senses had become so sharpened.

Remus stared down at the once energetic boy. He had grown older; not so much more mature, but more wizened. Ron had transgressed into some sort of shadow of himself & he almost seemed ethereal sitting in the dorm room, his hair a duller red, his eyes a dimmer brown, his face a wrinkled impression of what it had been.

"I... I don't think I can carry it. There's no one left to ask for help."

Somehow, the words that escaped Harry's lips were in Lupin's own words.

"No, as long as I'm here, you won't have to carry this burden alone."
