“No way.”
“Why not?” whined Sirius. The disappointment was evident in his voice. He thrust his most convincing impression of puppy eyes at James, who was on his bed, belly-down and browsing through his Care of Magical Creatures text.
James crossed his arms. “Don’t look at me like that. I’ve seen how you live,” he said, without looking up, “In absolute chaos. Don’t get me wrong, it’s endearing and all.”
Sirius’ jaw dropped. “How am I any worse than you?” He pounced from his bed to James’ and nuzzled on top of James’ bony shoulder blade. “Geez, you sound like Moony.”
James gave up on the idea of multitasking and slid off the bed, out of Sirius’ grip. He half-stomped over to his four-poster bunk to retrieve Sirius’ striped tie and held it in view. It was rather beaten-looking; a sad, wrinkled piece of fabric. “For instance,” James stated, evenly, “You can’t even take care of your laundry. Mine, however, is in mint condition.”
Sirius smirked. “Need I remind you that it only looks like that because you insisted on taking it off with your teeth last night?” he asked, brows raised.
James’ face flushed over. He touched Sirius’ lips. “That’s another reason we could never share a loft,” the bespectacled boy alleged, “Amidst our activities, we’d never get anything done.”
But Sirius just grinned, sensing he’d won him over.
