Sirius and James discuss getting a flat together...

He didn't think anything of it at the time.
“So, anyone got any plans for when we leave?" Remus had asked lazily. Sirius, sprawled on his back on his bed with his head hanging off the edge, had looked up, shrugged as best he could from that position and said,
“Nope. What are you going to do?” Remus had shyly volunteered an ambition to teach, which Sirius obviously thought a ridiculous idea, though he was just polite enough not to say so.
“You going to live at home?” Sirius had said curiously, and Remus had nodded quietly.
“Oh, come on! You need to get out, be independent, not let them cramp your style!” Remus had raised an eyebrow. “Come on Prongs, you think so, don’t you?"
James had laughed and changed the subject.

Later though, he had seen them talking.
“…why not? It’d be good,” Sirius was saying, a strange note in his voice.
“Sirius...” James sounded tired. Sirius reached out, put a hand on his shoulder. James visibly tensed, looked up at him with irritation plain in his eyes.
“We aren’t going to go through this again.”
“Go through what? I’m just saying, you and me, sharing a flat? It’d be the best!” James shook his head and sighed.
“Look, I... Lily...” he said haltingly. “I’m sorry.” He turned around and walked out, leaving Sirius alone.
