I own nothing, and will probably never own anything aside from this computer.
Will walked through the halls blank-faced and as indifferent to the surrounding whispers as he could be. He wasn’t going to care this year, he was starting over. William Giles wasn’t the tiny bookwork with big glasses and a notebook full of shitty poetry anymore. If he was going to go through his last year of high school in a totally new country he might as well be a totally new person.
“William Giles?” the bored looking math teacher called.
“‘Ere.” He replied from the back of the room, again more whispers, and quite a few glances from the girls sitting in front of him.
“Alexander Harris?”
“Um, Xander, here, yeah.” a voice next to him mumbled. He glanced over at the owner of the voice. The boy was pretty cute, the parts of the boy he could see anyway, a majority of his face was buried into a Fantastic Four comic book.
The boy was cute, that was all he would admit. It was too soon to tell who played for what team. His hair was the color of chocolate, same for the eyes. There was something to be said for brown-eyed boys in Will’s opinion.
He was on his way to lunch when he saw the boy, Xander, at his locker. Will started towards him when he saw a group of guys approaching with less than well-intentioned smiles on their faces.
“Hey Harris!” one of them said as they slammed his locker closed and shoved him against it, knocking his books down in the process. ‘Bullies, they get more original by the day.’ Will thought to himself. The apparent leader of the group had Xander by the front of his shirt, his other hand drawn back into a fist while the others sniggered to each other and chanted “smear the queer.”
Before he knew what he was doing, Will had the guys fist pinned at an uncomfortable angle to his back.
“Let him go before you become a stain on the floor.” He growled, shoving the guy away from the cute boy when his collar was released.
“Anybody else wanting to play?” he snarled before the group scurried away, unnerved by the boy who took down their fearless leader.
“Thanks, Riley and his drones aren’t big fans of those who don’t do their homework for them.” Xander sighed as he bent down to pick up his books. Will kneeled down next to him to help.
“I’m more of a DC man myself, but we comic book fold gotta stick together, right?” Will shrugged with a smile before handing his small pile of books to Xander and standing up.
“You’re Will, right? The new kid from England?” Xander asked.
“According to whispers I’m also in a band, had sex with most of the teachers at my old school, and murdered my parents. According to myself, I’m Will from England, yes.” Will answered, offering his hand.
“Xander, from my parents’ basement.” was the reply. They shook hands.
“You can come sit with me and my friends, today. I mean if you want, you probably have other people…” Xander offered self-consciously.
“No, I mean sure, I really don’t have anyone else to sit wi-“
“Will! Hey! Wait!” Kirsten called from down the hall.
“Shit…” Will muttered. Xander quirked a questioning brow at the punk boy next to him in regards to the girl coming closer.
“Who-“
“Kirsten, we’re kind of related, it’s a long story.” Will whispered in reply.
“Hey, um, can I sit with you today? Please? Don’t make me sit alone and secure my loserdom for the rest of my life William Rupert Giles, I beg of you.” She cried dramatically before glancing at the boy behind Will, “Hi person by Will.” She added as she waved to Xander.
“Xander.” The brunet replied in greeting.
“Kirsten, small loser with no friends.” The girl replied.
“I was going to sit with Xander-“ Will said, making his ‘I like this boy, fuck it up for me and die’ face very visible to his young “aunt”.
“Kirsten can sit with us, I don’t mind.” Xander offered.
“Thank you!” Kirsten smiled, flinging herself at Xander in a hug.
“She’s a hugger.” William said in apology.
If there was ever a person to ruin a moment, it was Kirsten. Not that she always meant to, obviously, and she did come in handy when Will’s shyness got the best of him and he ran out of things to say. As of right now, though, he was doing pretty well talking to Xander, and he was doing pretty stellar without his geeky unofficial sidekick. Then again, the Kirsten test was a rather crucial test for the boys he pursued. The Kirsten test was one of the most important, before the Dad test, but after the Erica test. Someone who was willing to listen to her incessant babbling and restrained yelling at her to shut up, gained points in William’s book.
“You read comic books, too?” Kirsten asked seeing the thin booklet peeking out from a stack of notebook, “Will loves them. His entire room is full of them. He’s always reading them. His favorite is Superman, but I think Iron Man is way better.”
“Iron Man is cool and all, but Tony Stark just seems like a Batman rip-off, and he breaks almost all the Superhero Commandments. I mean half the plot of a series is how the hero is able to maintain to separate identities. I mean he still totally kick ass and everything, but…”the conversation was lost to William as he trailed behind Kirsten and Xander. He gave points to Xander for not brushing the girl off, and even more points for acknowledging the Superhero Commandments.
