Cameron Hicks walked out of his office after a long boring day; ready to go home, crash on the sofa, and watch some football. Nina and Rachel were already gone and Dr. Rosen was locked away in his office talking to someone important on the phone. He was pulling on his jacket when he heard the familiar loud voice of Gary and the sarcastic voice of Bill down the hall. They were arguing, something they did often enough that Cameron was used to it.
Hicks pulled on his jacket and continued walking down the hall, getting closer to the two. All of the sudden, the skinny brunette brushed past him.
"C'mon Gary, I was just kidding!" Bill said
"You're wrong. Whatever Bill." Gary said loudly as he walked back to his office. Cameron raised an eyebrow at Bill. Bill sighed frustratedly.
"He knows I was kidding! I was just poking some fun at him." Bill said exasperatedly.
"About what?" Hicks asked, a little amused by them.
"I was just teasing him about never kissing a girl and he got all defensive." Bill said. Cameron frowned.
"How do you know he's never kissed a girl?" Hicks asked.
"I don't. Like I said, I was just teasing him a little." Bill said, "I've gotta go man, I'll see you tomorrow." Bill said as he got into the elevator to go to the doors.
"Ok, see ya." Hicks said, distractedly. He felt bad about what Bill had said to Gary. As much as Gary acted like a teenager, it seemed like everyone here forgot he that wasn't. Gary was an adult and his autism made him brutally honest, so if he said he had kissed a girl before, Hicks believed him.
Hicks found himself walking back to Gary's office. He knocked on the open door lightly to alert the younger man.
"Hey Gary." He said casually.
"Hi Hicks. Bill was wrong. I've kissed a girl before. Three actually. Three girls." Gary said, sitting at his desk as he flipped through his invisible media streams.
"And I believe you, I think Bill was just yanking your chain." Hicks said, moving into the office now. He sat on top of Gary's desk.
Gary frowned. "I don't have a chain. That doesn't make any sense." He told him mater-of-factly.
Hicks smiled. "Right, uh, I think Bill was just messing with you." He tried.
Gary thought about that before consenting. "Ok."
Hicks smiled, relieved for some reason, and was about to hop off the desk before something hit him.
"Wait, you've kissed girls before?" Hicks asked aloud, though it was directed at himself.
"Yes. Three. Three girls. You weren't listening. I told-" Gary swiveled in his chair to face him and started to explain.
"No, Gary, I was listening, I was just thinking out loud. You- at the high school a few days ago, you said you didn't like to be touched." Hicks asked, beginning to put things together.
"Yes" Gary said, not sure why Hicks was asking him these painfully obvious questions.
"Well, wouldn't those three girls have to touch you to kiss you?" Hicks asked.
"Yeah, but I didn't like it. I mean." Gary paused, searching for the right words. "No. I didn't feel anything, when I kissed them. So.." Hicks could tell Gary was getting frustrated.
"No, Gary it's ok. You don't have to explain, I get it." Hicks said quickly. He had enough friends who batted for the other team to know exactly what Gary was trying to explain. He knew, from friends' "horror" stories about kissing, what Gary was talking about. Hicks, himself, was Bi, so he never had a problem with that.
"Well, have you ever tried kissing anyone else?" Hicks asked. He was curious now. He liked the guy. Gary was smart and funny, despite his childish antics, and he was attractive, not that that was what Hicks focused on.
"Like who?" Gary asked.
"Like a guy." Hicks offered up casually.
"Why would I do that?" Gary asked.
Hicks almost sighed his disappointment, maybe he had been wrong about Gary. He searched for the right way to explain. "Well, when two guys are attracted to each other-"
"No. I know what gay is Hicks. I'm not stupid." Gary interrupted, shaking his head.
"I know you're not." Hicks said, smiling a little.
"But why would I kiss a guy? It would be just like kissing a girl." Gary said.
Hicks was silent for a moment, seeming to be internally debating something, "Not necessarily, maybe you wouldn't feel nothing with a guy." Hicks said finally, coming to a decision.
Gary paused frowning. "But....How would I-" Gary was cut off as a pair of rough lips touched his. He was surprised when a small spark of ...something happened when their lips met. Hicks parted his lips and slowly slid his tongue into the warm cavern of Gary's mouth. Gary felt a tiny shudder go through him when his tongue met Hicks' for the first time. Hicks kissed him tenderly and gently put a hand on Gary's shoulder. Warmth spread throughout Gary's body. Gary continued to kiss back softly before Hicks broke the kiss.
"Did you still feel nothing?" Hicks asked leaning back, resuming his original spot on the desk.
"That was good. Better than the girls." Gary announced.
Hicks smiled. "Good. I'll see you tomorrow Gary." He said as he hopped off the desk.
"Okay. Goodnight Hicks." Gary said, already back to going through the media streams.
As Hicks left the building, he couldn't help but smile. Gary definitely hadn't been lying when he said he had kissed someone before.
