Got to be strong enough to carry the heaviest man in your team.

Greg shoves two fingers down the front of Sam's jacket and pulls, peering down it. "What, you strapped weights to your chest to make me feel better?"

"Sarge, I just-"

"No cheating," Greg interrupts. He pats the side of Sam's face. "Got it?"

"No," Sam says, his jaw tightening in defiance. Ed just smirks and Wordy shakes his head like he's had this conversation with Sam before and had warned him more than enough against it.

"No?"

"Okay, you're always the one getting dragged around the station, sarge, and it isn't fair."

"It is plenty fair, Sam. It's my punishment for eating too many home-cooked dinners, right?"

"Maybe, but what if it's all of us stuck somewhere and you're the one who's got to pull us out?" Behind him, Sam hears the intake of breath from Ed and the unmistakable sound of Spike and Lew, trying not to laugh.

"He's got a point, boss," Wordy says, stepping forward. "I mean, you're usually the dragee and not-"

"The dragee?" Greg interjects, rolling his eyes. "Are you all kidding me with this?"

"What's the matter, sir?" Jules asks, grinning. "Don't think you're strong enough to drag a girl a hundred yards without breaking a sweat?"

Greg looks around at them all and shakes his head, sure he'll regret this. "Fine," he says. "Everybody on the floor."

Ed throws his hands up. "C'mon, Greg, you don't have to try it with all of us."

Greg just slaps his hands together. "On the floor, Eddie, let's go."

Sam finds him in the locker room afterwards, when everyone else is in the gym. He sits down next to him on the low bench and looks at the ground. "I'm sorry," he says, eventually.

"Better believe you will be," Greg answers. He's staring at the door of his locker, at the dent he kicked into it last week. His teeshirt is ringed under the arms and around the neck with dark patches of sweat and he rubs at his head with both hands, making no real impact on the sweat that's gathered there, too. He's caught his breath, at least. He just needs to cool down.

"I just wanted to show everyone that you can still do it."

"No you didn't," Greg sighs. "You wanted to show everyone that I couldn't do it and I was dumb enough to rise to the bait."

Sam is about to argue and thinks better of it. "You proved me wrong, though," he says, instead. "Are we still...?"

Greg turns his head, looks at Sam. "Yes, we are still," he replies. "Now get out of my sight."
