Frayed and Frustrated

Rodney frowned over at Radek, deep in conversation with Carson. They were doing it again. Every time he turned around, those two were talking. This did not bode well.
Rodney started to go over and find out what they were up to when the ancient device he was studying started to emit suspicious-looking orange smoke. "Hey! Need a fire extinguisher!"
The next hour was spent fussing with the annoying device, which ended up dying in a blaze of sparks and fireworks before it had given up its secrets. Rodney glared at it, convinced that it'd been personal; the stupid thing had had it in for him since he'd found it the previous week.
In total frustration, he finally had to give in and stop prodding and poking the device. He looked up, suddenly remembering something about Radek and Carson…. Right! He scowled and looked around for them, but they had somehow slipped out when he'd been busy trying to rescue the device. Fine friends those two turned out to be, abandoning him when Rodney needed their help.
He tossed the offending device in a bin for some junior member of his team to salvage for parts and stomped off to his quarters. He was halfway to his quarters when turned a corner and missed, smacking into it. "Ow! Whoa, dizzy. Right. Food." He turned and wove in the general direction of the commissary.
He walked in and snagged a few MRE's and more life-sustaining coffee. He was headed to a quiet table nearby when he froze.
"Dammit, there they are again." Radek and Carson were sitting in the corner having an animated conversation. "That does it. I'm going to find out what's going on!"
He'd just taken two steps towards them when he smacked into Kusanagi, who'd suddenly stepped into his path. "Ow!"
He glared at the scientist, who was looking at him with surprised, contrite eyes. "Dr. McKay! I am so sorry. I was looking for you. I was checking the device which blew up and it reminded me of your lecture on…" The rest of her words were lost to Rodney as he watched Radek and Carson slipping out of the commissary, smiling and chatting.
Rodney growled. He looked down at Kusanagi, who had jumped at his growl. "Are you still here?!" He asked in his snarkiest tone.
Kusanagi shrank back, muttered some excuses quickly and all but ran away. Rodney shook his head. That reminded him of his grandmother's annoying little dog that yipped and ran away when confronted. Strange.
He shrugged. "Where was I.. oh *yes*". He glared in the direction Radek and Carson had left. He was going to get to the bottom of this, he vowed.

A week later, Rodney found new depths to his frustration.
"It's not fair. It's just *not* fair!" Rodney all but growled as he vainly tested the restraints tied around his wrists. "This is *not* my week!" He slumped back against the hard surface and waited, aggravated, for help to arrive.
