...when I got stuck in the emergency stairs? Because I will tell you now.
Last Friday, I met up with a couple of my friends from uni. We had a great time, but this is not the story of our meet up. Nope. This is the story of what happened after.
It's already past 10 p.m. when we decided to end our rendezvous and since
voidvlex had already promised to drive me home, I headed to the parking lot with him. We rode the lift to the seventh floor where he went 'oh, seems like I'm wrong... I think I parked my car on the sixth floor instead'. Oh, well, I thought, no big deal. Only the lift took forever to come and then he got this wonderful cursed idea of using the emergency stairs and I got this smart stupid idea to follow him.
Like you can guess, we found out that the door leading to the stairs can only be opened from the outside. Our first words upon noticing were 'we're screwed'. Our first reaction upon realizing we're stuck was to panic. And we panicked for quite a while, trying to remain calm and rational and kinda failing because we were facing the possibility of getting locked down--the mall was close to its closing time after all.
And then, we had this idea of googling the contact number for the mall--thank God for mobile phones with internet connection. The customer service was, fortunately, very helpful and promised to send the security to fetch us. Seeing that we could do nothing but wait, we sat on the stairs like a pair of well-behaved people we were.
It was hot. And dusty. And the stale air felt really uncomfortable. We talked about how in the stories, if two characters were to get trapped in our situation, they would have some deep, life changing conversation which most often than not led into some love confession. Then they would have some heated make out session until they got saved. We looked at each other, then, and snorted.
'Nah...'
A couple of minutes afterward, the door was opened and we got out. Oh, it was fantastic, marvelous, amazing! We hugged and laughed and cried and made a fool of ourselves, not caring if people might look at us funny. It was like we just escaped some life threatening situation and, man, it felt so liberating XD the kind security officer told us that we're not the first ones to get stuck in the emergency stairs and somehow that made us felt better. We thought, hey, if people got into that trap, then it mean we're not that stupid, surely.
But to add insult to the injury, apparently dear
voidvlex was mistaken. His car was not parked on the seventh floor--like what he initially predicted. Neither was it parked on the sixth floor--like what he suspected before he decided to take the stairs. Nope, it was parked on the eighth floor.
The moral of this story:
1. Emergency stairs are evil
2. Mobile phone with internet connection = WIN
3. Remembering where you park your car is serious business
That thing aside, since last Monday I moved to another product division at work. After two years working in Loan Origination System, now I'm working in General Cash Management. So, after dealing with mortgage agreements and credit card requests and things like that, now I'm dealing with RTGS and forex trading and such. This means several days of skimming documents until at least I know what the hell I'm dealing with. Isn't it ironic that I was studying IT in university yet now I have to learn about general banking and finance?
The curse of working in a software company for banking and financial industries... sigh...
